• As the corner of Erin’s lips twitched slightly, she reached her hand out to take the glass of water for herself. But before she could even touch the glass, Arthur pulled it away from her. She stared at him speechlessly. “Just drink it like this,” Arthur ordered as he held the glass with the straw to her lips.
• The tips of her ears turned red and her face fell pale as she turned toward Frank and Carol. For some reason, both Frank and Carol simultaneously shifted their glances away the moment Erin looked at them. Then, they both exchanged glances with one another—communicating through their eyes the possibility that they might have made the situation more awkward for Erin. At that point, they were the ones who were starting to feel more awkward. Why did they have to hide, after all?
• Since both Frank and Carol weren’t looking at her, Erin finally parted her lips and sucked on the straw in the cup. Feeling parched, she finished the entire glass of water at one go. “Do you want more?” Arthur asked when he saw her finishing it. Erin shook her head slightly before she turned back to Frank and Carol; the timid look on her face made her look like an obedient and compliant housewife. Both Frank and Carol cleared their throats before they looked at Arthur and Erin once again.
