Chapter 14 Murder?
- When the driver saw Henry, he trembled in fear. Before Henry could even ask any questions, he began to cry and vent his frustrations.
- He said that he had elderly parents and young children to care for, as well as a leukemia-stricken daughter. He was about to flee because he knew the car was too expensive, and he could not afford to pay for the damages.
- When I heard him say that he had a leukemia-stricken daughter at home, I immediately thought of Bobby, who was currently in the hospital, so I could really empathize with what he was going through.
- I wanted to plead to Henry on his behalf, but as soon as I opened my mouth, Henry glared at me coldly.
- He sneered at me and said coldly, "I wonder what's in your head, Samantha."
- When I heard Henry's words, I was so angry that my face turned red.
- Following that, Henry asked, "Are you sure you want to plead for the person who wanted to kill you?"
- Henry's words stunned me on the spot.
- Did someone want to murder me? I was perplexed. Wasn't this a car accident?
- I looked at the driver in disbelief. I noticed a panicked look in his eyes. Despite his repeated denials, Henry ordered his bodyguards to keep him detained until the police arrested him for questioning.
- The police had probably arrived quickly because of Henry's status. I was also taken to the police station to record my statement.
- Henry had deliberately crashed head-on into the car and used its momentum to force the car to a stop. Since the car crash was intentional, the insurance company would not pay for the intentional damages.
- On the other hand, the driver who caused the accident insisted that it was simply a traffic accident caused by a brake failure.
- The police took my statement. I watched the footage caught by the surveillance camera. It was only then that I realized how dangerous it had been.
- I would have died if Henry's car had not intervened.
- Because of that, my feelings for Henry became more complicated.
- It was late at night when we left the police station. Henry reached for his phone and dialed a number. He seemed to be summoning his driver to come and fetch him.
- I remembered how badly he had damaged his car to save me. I bit my lower lip and offered to cover the costs of the repairs.
- He looked at me surprised, and his eyes filled with a flurry of emotions I didn't recognize. He stated flatly, "Okay."
- Then I gave him my phone number and instructed him to call me when the repair bill arrived. I told him that I would most likely have to owe him the money first, but that I would write an IOU and would never default on my debt.
- At this point, a black Audi A8 came to a stop by the roadside.
- Henry got into the car while I was standing by the roadside, about to leave. Henry called me through the car window, telling me to get in.
- I considered it and flatly refused his offer.
- Despite my desire to be with Bobby, I could not risk Henry discovering my secret.
- I was afraid he would find out about Bobby's existence.
- Henry left. It was even more difficult for me to hail a taxi from the side of the road. Finally, a police officer took pity on me and drove me to the hospital in a police car.
- When I arrived at the hospital, my mother-in-law complained about me. "Bobby is sick, and it took you so long to come here."
- Bobby had already dozed off after receiving an infusion at this point. Perhaps it was because he was not feeling well that he couldn't sleep soundly.
- I felt guilty as well as distressed. My mother-in-law chastised me, and I just put up with it. Looking at her tired face, I said, "Mom, you should rest first. I'll keep an eye on him."
- My mother-in-law nodded and walked over to the other bed to rest.
- I suddenly remembered what Henry said as I looked at Bobby on the bed. That man was obviously aiming for you…
- I reflected on it and concluded that I had not offended anyone except for Henry. Why would anyone want to kill me?
