Chapter 12 Finding Evidence

  • Jeremy slammed his fist on the steering wheel and gave me a menacing look when he heard what I said.
  • His lips moved to say something, but he swallowed his words instead.
  • Just then, Jeremy's phone began to ring.
  • He answered the phone and spoke briefly on it before casting a glance at me.
  • I'm not sure what was said on the other end of the line, but Jeremy's expression was no better than when he first picked up the phone.
  • "Get out!" Jeremy glared at me with disgust.
  • I realized what was going on, and I got out of the car with caution.
  • I saw the caller ID just now. It was Harold Quinn. I have met with that person several times before. He was Jeremy's boyfriend.
  • Jeremy sped away impatiently as soon as I got out of the car.
  • I felt sad for a while after seeing Jeremy's eagerness to leave. I was saddened even more when I saw an elderly couple nearby who were supporting each other.
  • I raised my head and blinked away the tears in my eyes. Then I took long strides to the hospital.
  • When my mother-in-law noticed me returning alone, she inquired about Jeremy. I made up an excuse for him, telling her that he had left because he had work to do.
  • Due to my pregnancy and lack of sleep, my face was pale during this time. My mother-in-law appeared concerned and advised me to return home and rest for a few days.
  • I was stubborn. I made a deal with her that I would only visit during the day and would return to sleep at night. Only then did she agree to drop the matter.
  • When I returned, I discovered that Harold had actually moved in. He was wearing a bathrobe and had half his chest exposed when I walked in. It was awkward for both of us to meet in that manner.
  • After quickly saying hello to Jeremy, I went upstairs and entered my room.
  • I woke up in the middle of the night to go downstairs for water, and I could hear Jeremy tossing and turning in his room.
  • When I heard the sound, I blushed. I was getting ready to leave after drinking the water, so I grabbed my phone to light my path. As I turned around, an idea struck me.
  • I found a lot of information about lavender marriage on the Internet when I became a beard wife, and I even knew that many beard wives lead difficult lives.
  • Divorce was difficult for some of the women, not only because of their children but also because they lacked evidence. Even if they did reveal it, the opposing party would simply deny it. Furthermore, deception was common among these people. They were so accustomed to acting. What's more, once divorced, a woman's reputation will suffer.
  • And wasn't now a good time to gather evidence? Even if there was no immediate need for it, it could be saved for later use.
  • With that in mind, I approached Jeremy's door quietly.
  • I was unsure if it was because those two were so engrossed in their passion that the door was not properly closed. I took out my phone and filmed the inside through the gap in the door.
  • I retracted my hand after taking a brief video.
  • I turned around and was about to go upstairs with my phone. However, as I stumbled my way through the dark, I accidentally bumped into a table.
  • I cried out in surprise, and a vigilant voice came from Jeremy's room. "Who is it?"
  • "I went downstairs to drink some water," I replied awkwardly and hurried upstairs.
  • After entering my room, I patted my chest in fear. If Jeremy gave me the impression of a pseudo-gentleman, Harold gave me the impression of a poisonous snake lying dormant in the dark. In comparison to Jeremy, I was more opposed to Harold.
  • I ran into Harold the next day as I was leaving. He gave me a cryptic look, and as he brushed past me, he said something that made me feel cold.
  • "I heard that Fireball Bar employed a tough girl."
