Chapter 7 Madness

  • Jeremy's words almost sent me into madness. "I paid Bobby's medical bill with the money I earned before we married. I even paid for his daily expenses with the money I earned from my job. You said you didn't care about his origin."
  • How pathetic were we! We appeared to be a respectful couple in everyone's eyes. However, behind everyone's back, we were as close as two strangers. Both of us lived our own lives. We were just husband and wife on the paper.
  • We became great actors in this marriage, pretending everything was fine. Only we would know the deceits and lies behind the curtain.
  • As long as Jeremy did not go too far, I would tolerate anything, including the loveless marriage.
  • And Bobby was my bottom line.
  • "Jeremy, you better tell me where Bobby is. Otherwise, I would not hold back your secrets."
  • "Samantha! Are you sure? Bobby's origin would be exposed too if you ever say a word. What would the rest of the world think about both of you?"
  • Jeremy's words really struck a nerve.
  • After all, Bobby was born in wedlock. If his real parentage was exposed, I could not imagine what others would say about him.
  • And the illusion of the happy family I created for Bobby would disappear in a snap.
  • Before this, I might give in to his threat. However, with Bobby's life hanging by a thread, his reputation was nothing compared to his life.
  • "Jeremy, I will announce your secret to everyone, including your friends and colleagues at your workplace, if you don't tell me where Bobby is!"
  • At that moment, I was like a lioness who had lost her cubs. I would not be merciful to Jeremy if he refused to tell Bobby's whereabouts.
  • Probably because of my threats, Jeremy finally gave me an address.
  • It was the address of a village. I immediately hired a taxi.
  • It took more than two hours to reach the village.
  • I finally found the address of the holistic doctor. However, I almost lost my mind when I entered the door.
  • My mother-in-law was holding Bobby, whose shirt was lifted with plenty of needles planted onto his body. His voice was hoarse from crying, and his face was flustered.
  • I ran over when I saw this.
  • "Let go of my child."
  • I wanted to snatch Bobby away from my mother-in-law, but I was afraid I might push the needles even deeper.
  • Bobby looked at me with tears in his eyes. "Mommy, I'm in pain!" He cried with his arms reaching out to me.
  • "Why are you here? Bobby is undergoing treatment. Are you going to be responsible for the aftermath of disrupting the treatment?" My mother-in-law stared at me angrily.
  • "We don't want the treatment. We are going back to the hospital."
  • Then, I looked at the old man. "Remove the needles. We are going to the hospital." I yelled.
  • "Do not pull! This could save Bobby's life!" My mother-in-law looked at me warily while trying to protect Bobby.
  • "Mom, let's go back to the hospital!"
  • "No! The hospital is a money-pit. We didn't see any progress after spending so much money!"
  • "Mom, I paid for Bobby's medical bill. He is my child, and I want him to stay in the hospital."
  • I was exhausted by today's incident. But, even though my voice was hoarse, I was fierce.
  • My mother-in-law saw my determination. She placed the crying child in my arms. "I don't care anymore. You take care of your own child," she said angrily.
  • I held Bobby in my arms with tears and carefully pulled every needle from his body. Then, I left the place without looking back.
  • The taxi was still waiting outside. So, I carried Bobby into the taxi. When we reached the hospital, I realized something.
  • My mother-in-law had taken all the money when Bobby was discharged from the hospital.
