Chapter 13 A Brush With Death

  • I did not know why Harold said those things to me, but I was certain he was aware of what I did at Fireball Bar.
  • To avoid being discovered, I found Fireball Bar, which was located in the west of the city while I lived in the east. Furthermore, the bar was not well-known, so I had no qualms about working there.
  • I did not expect that Harold would discover my secret so quickly.
  • Seeing my reaction, he snorted lightly and continued, "Samantha, let me warn you, you ought to know what can and cannot be said. Don't do anything you'll come to regret later."
  • I finally realized what Harold was saying. He was afraid I would reveal his secret relationship with Jeremy.
  • I looked at him understandingly and said, "Don't worry. I won't offend people unless they offend me. I don't have a habit of interfering in other people's affairs."
  • I turned around and left after saying that.
  • But God knew how nervous I was just now, especially when Harold inadvertently glanced at my phone, which caused my heart to race even faster.
  • For the past few days, I had been looking after Bobby in the hospital during the day, and I only went to the bar at night when customers asked for me.
  • However, the work came in dribs and drabs, and the pay was pitiful, barely enough to cover Bobby's hospitalization costs.
  • After several cloudy days, it finally rained in the evening. As soon as I accepted a customer's order, I received a phone call from my mother-in-law, saying that Bobby had caught a cold and fever.
  • I did not care about offending anyone, so I declined the order and left the bar right away.
  • Maybe it was the bad weather, but I waited by the roadside for a long time and still could not catch a taxi.
  • I looked at the time and finally decided that I could not just wait anymore. Instead, I walked some distance to catch a bus.
  • A flurry of dazzling headlights flashed in my direction just as I was about to walk, and a car that had lost control was flying in my direction. My mind went blank at the second. I knew I should have jumped out of the way, but my body could not react quickly enough.
  • Just at the critical moment of life and death, a car appeared out of nowhere and collided with the out-of-control car, sending it in a different direction.
  • The cars were a Cayenne and a Hyundai sedan. The Cayenne had collided with the Hyundai's front passenger seat side, causing half of the car to be dented and the Cayenne's front to be deformed.
  • I patted my chest, terrified. Had it not been for the Cayenne that had dashed over, my life would have ended here.
  • With that in mind, I approached the car with caution and tapped on the window. I was wondering if anyone in the car was hurt.
  • I was not expecting Henry to be the passenger in the back seat. Countless thoughts raced through my mind at this point, and my initial reaction was to flee.
  • But, after only two steps, I heard a cold groan from inside the car, "Heh... is that how you treat your savior?"
  • When I heard Henry's words, my entire body stiffened.
  • When I faced Henry, I realized that even if I had been the one who had been teased by him previously, I would still be the one with a guilty conscience when we met again. He was not the issue; it was all due to Bobby and the twins in my womb.
  • Every day, I wished that we would never meet again in this life, but I did not expect God to be so cruel as to bring us together again.
  • I almost made a long face. I forced a smile and turned to face Henry, saying, "Thank you!"
  • While I was speaking with Henry, his driver had already gotten out of the car and apprehended the driver of the other car, who was about to flee. He threw the person at Henry's feet and exclaimed, "This one's the culprit!"
