Chapter 15 Questions
- There was no conclusion to the car accident yet. As a result, I was afraid to go out, and I looked after Bobby in the hospital every day.
- Jeremy came by the next afternoon. He stayed in the ward for a while and played with Bobby before leaving.
- I did not pay much attention then, but when I went through my phone that night, I was completely taken aback.
- Someone had tampered with my phone.
- I kept searching, but I could not find the video that I had previously recorded. When I thought of Jeremy's visit to the hospital earlier, it made me realize something.
- My heart thumped quickly as I thought about that.
- How could Jeremy be so calm and quiet if he had discovered that video?
- Now, he remained the only suspect. I remembered when he came earlier, Bobby was playing games on my phone.
- My videos were all password-protected. Bobby could not have rummaged through it. My mother-in-law did not know how to use a smartphone, so she could be ruled out as well.
- To confirm my suspicions, I asked Bobby, "Did Daddy play with my phone?"
- My mind raced as I watched Bobby nod. I could only think of one word. Shit.
- My mother-in-law noticed that I was not looking so good and assumed it was due to a lack of sleep. So, she urged me to return home and rest for a while so as not to exhaust her unborn grandson.
- My mental state was complicated, and because I was curious about Jeremy's plan, I nodded and agreed to go home.
- However, Jeremy was obviously at work during the day, so there was no one at home.
- I decided to cook something for myself first, and then bring it to the hospital for my mother-in-law and Bobby to eat later. While I was cooking, the phone in the living room rang.
- I rushed to the phone, only to discover that it was from the insurance company.
- When I heard what the insurance company said, I was completely dumbfounded. My face turned pale as I gripped the phone, and asked, "You said my husband took out accident insurance for me?"
- "Yes, your husband purchased accident insurance for your entire family about a month ago... We couldn't reach your husband on his phone, so we're contacting him on his home number..."
- I could not recall how I got off the phone.
- Was this a coincidence?
- Jeremy bought me accident insurance, and I recently nearly had a car accident?
- Even if it was a coincidence, I found it difficult to believe. It would be fine if we were a typical couple, but we were not. Jeremy would never care about my life or death, let alone take out such a large insurance policy on my behalf.
- As if I had gone insane, I rushed into the room that I had barely entered.
- I rummaged through Jeremy's bedroom. When I discovered an insurance contract hidden beneath the bed, every fluke and excuse in my heart vanished.
- Jeremy had asked me to sign this when Bobby first became ill. He explained that he had purchased this medical insurance so that Bobby could claim reimbursement for medical consultations.
- I did not notice anything else because I had medical insurance at the time, but I did not realize he bought a policy under my name with him as the beneficiary.
- I remembered the car accident again, and it all came together. The goal was obvious.
- I had never felt so sad as I did today. Like a fool, I was completely deceived.
- I could live with a sexless marriage and being a couple only in name, but I never imagined Jeremy being so ruthless and devoid of conscience.
- My body trembled with rage, and with trembling fingers, I picked up the phone and dialed Jeremy's number.
- After several attempts, I still could not get through, so I went outside and took a taxi to Jeremy's office.
- Fortunately, Jeremy and I had attended several events in their company together, and we had also shown our affection several times at Jeremy's request. His coworkers were all familiar with me.
- As soon as I walked into Jeremy's office, I threw the insurance contract in his face.
- "Jeremy, I didn't expect you to be so cruel."
