Chapter 1 Gambling For Life

  • "Your child has a rare blood type, so it will be difficult to find matching bone marrow. Furthermore, your blood types do not match. The best solution is to have another baby. If you are lucky, the baby's umbilical blood could save your child."
  • The doctor's words were still ringing in my ears. But, according to him, that was my last hope.
  • However, it was easier said than done.
  • That was because there was an unspoken secret: Bobby was not a child I had with my husband.
  • My husband liked men. We only discovered that after we got married. He had an aversion to women sexually. Therefore we had been sleeping in different bedrooms since we married.
  • Bobby was an accident. He was the result of a drunk night at a bar after I found out about my husband's sexual orientation. My mother-in-law did not know about this. My husband did not expose the lie to save face.
  • So, if I wanted a second child, I would have to find the man from that day.
  • For this reason, I found a job at the bar where everything happened so that I could meet that man again.
  • However, a month passed, and I still hadn't met him.
  • When I almost lost hope, I met the man again in an unexpected situation.
  • That day, the customers from Room 136 ordered two bottles of liquor. When I entered the room with the liquor, I saw the man I had been looking for.
  • At that moment, I was so overwhelmed by the joy that I stared at the man like an idiot.
  • I only realized my rudeness when I heard the chuckles coming from my back. I quickly stood aside under the displeased gaze of the man.
  • I twisted my fingers, thinking about the strategies I had planned for this exact moment. However, it was not as easy as I imagined when it was really happening.
  • A low, intoxicating voice came from my back when I was still deep in my thoughts.
  • I looked up from my thoughts and found myself drowning in a pair of eyes as deep as the ocean.
  • The man's face, which was so handsome like a sculpture, was only inches away from me. His tall figure was well over six feet tall, towering over me as if he was hugging me.
  • His unique pheromone filled up my nose, making my heart thump.
  • At that moment, I knew very well that I should follow the plan by presenting my most enticing side to seduce the man to bed. Then, I would run away after getting pregnant.
  • "You don't want to do it?" he frowned impatiently after waiting for my answer.
  • "Wh… what?" I stuttered when I suddenly realized he was talking to me.
  • The man looked at the person next to him, who came forward and explained to me.
  • Then, I learned this man was called Henry Quinn. He was playing knife throwing with others, but they lacked a live target.
  • The man explained the game rules clearly: I would be tied with limbs stretched out in the middle of a turntable. Then, Henry would throw knives at one of the five targets from five meters away after two bottles of liquor. He would win if he hit one of the targets.
  • It was a game of thrill and excitement.
  • The problem was that no one wanted to risk their lives to be the live target.
  • Listening to the explanation from his henchman, I decided to agree to it only after a few seconds of hesitation. It was very dangerous, but it was also a good opportunity.
  • "I could probably say yes, but…." I said as I looked at the man awkwardly.
  • Henry understood and took out a check from his pocket. He bent over and wrote a string of numbers on the check before picking it up with his fingers and placing it in front of me. "This is your reward," said Henry arrogantly.
  • I pushed the check away and did not even look at the numbers. "I don't want money," I said in complete seriousness while looking into Henry's eyes.
  • Then, to his surprise, I raised a finger. "You just need to agree to one request."
