Chapter 6 Luke
- “Wake up inmate!” The guard called from outside my cell. I blinked the sleep from my eyes as I sat up in my bunk. Nothing beats waking up to the sound of a whiny bitch in the morning. I slung my legs off the edge of the bunk and hopped down. Officer Davis stood in the doorway of my cell, a grim expression on his old face.
- “Mornin’ to you too Davis.” I mumbled in greeting. His expression didn’t change as I slid my shirt on over my broad shoulders. Surely, he was here for something, or was this some weird pleasure visit? Either way he wasn’t talking, and I decided I wouldn’t either. I stood in front of him now, waiting. After a long silence a huge grin spread on his face and laughter danced in his eyes.
- “Roll out day.” He grunted. “Pack your things and get ready to leave. You’re out of here.” With that he turned from the cell and walked away. I could hear his laugh from the hall as he withdrew. He didn’t think I would be gone for long. I had overheard him and all the other guards betting on how long I would be out this time. Little did they know I had a plan. Get out, find Sera, get her clean, and start a real life with her. I had received my G.E.D. while I was in this time and even had the chance to do some technical schooling. I plan on turning my life around and I wanted Sera to be with me. I was struggling to accept that she may not want the same life as me though, but if I get out of here and that’s not what she wants, it will be a hard pill to swallow.
