Chapter 17 The Calm Before The Storm
- I heard the woman leave 45 minutes later. Her and Luke’s voices had drifted down the hall and under my door. I heard her trilling laughter as they said their farewells and then I heard the front door shut. I didn’t hear a car door so I assumed she must have gotten a taxi here. I sat up and stared pointedly at my door, his footsteps now nearing it. His shadow stopped in front of it and I could feel his hesitation as he stood on the other side. A light knock sounded, making me jump. I had realized that I had been holding my breath.
- “Kay?” he called quietly from the other side “Can I come in?” I looked down at the crumpled dress I wore, the bra straps that I had pushed off my shoulders and decided to right myself. When I was satisfied with the results I pushed my hair back away from my face and called out to him.
- “Come in.” my voice didn’t sound as strong as I had hoped it would, but he entered my room without hesitation. The door closed softly behind him as he stood in front of me. His hazel eyes bore into me as I set on the edge of the bed waiting for him to speak. I watched his throat work as he took me in, head to toe. Could he tell what I had just been doing, been thinking about? I squeezed my thighs together to try and quell the fire that was beginning to settle there once more. My body shouldn’t react this way from just his mere presence.
