Chapter 61

  • On the next day, I woke up with swollen eyes and no energy. Lifting myself on the mattress, I clenched my jaw and closed my lids. I knew I had to do something that would break Noah's heart, but I had no choice. I had to own up to my decision.
  • Brushing my hair after my shower, I put the brush on the dressing table and glanced at the unmade bed behind me in the mirror. My heart clenched, and loneliness burst through me. I was alone. I pursed my lips and headed to the corridor. But every step I took echoed grimly as I fought the tears. Had this house always been so dark and quiet? Its size wanted to strangle me. The walls seemed way too big, and their colors came in on me, making my breath stumble. Feeling life drain out of me, I collapsed on the floor. My lungs didn't move anymore, tormenting me as I fought to intake air and get back on my feet. When the first tear fell, I fisted my hands and clenched my jaw. I needed a few hours before I went to Noah's. I wasn't ready.
