Chapter 66

  • Staring at the ultrasonic photo in my hand, I sat on my couch, waiting for Noah to come back home. There were so many emotions and tremors passing through my body. The strongest one, happiness, was closely rivaled by longing and pain. I had to start anew and build from scratch. As this house came with my position in the pack, I wondered if I was going to lose it. Would Xavier take my place as the Scout Leader? What would I work? I wasn't good at anything else. I just knew how to track and hide. That was my only talent.
  • A tear slid down my cheek, and I tensed my shoulders, wiping it off. I couldn't cry because of something that good. Even if Blake wasn't here anymore, I could still have a part of him with me. Proof that we were together, no matter for how short.
  • Rolling my shoulders, I popped my neck and lay back on the couch. I could try working in the bakery downtown? I knew they were looking for people. As far as the living arrangements went, I was going to find something good. I had some saved up money. My lips tugged up, proud at my own positivity. I could do this. I was better than my fears, and I always conquered them. I was still alive, and I had made it here on my own.
