Chapter 18

• My mate's eyes widened, and he shook his head, jerking away from me. Turning to the other direction, he sat on the ground. I lifted myself up, my arm still throbbing like crazy, and looked at the keys in my other hand.
• I stood on my feet, a little dizzy, and stepped closer to him. My eyes were still blurry with tears, so I wiped them and grunted in pain for using my bitten arm. Beast flinched and I knew. My mate was back.
• I unlocked the chain holding him captive and it slid off his neck. I took a step back, careful not to let it hit me feet. Its fall was followed by a loud thud and then... nothing. Quietness surrounded the space as we both remained frozen next to each other. Gathering enough strength, I closed the distance between us and leaned my body on him. His warmth made my heart feel like somebody was singing a gentle lullaby, enchanting everything in peace and coziness. My limbs became heavy and I didn't care if he wanted to shut me out and put a wall between us. I just wanted to be with him and... sleep.
