• As I walked briskly across the parking lot, William suddenly stepped in front of me, blocking my path. Though he tried to keep a calm expression in front of Caroline, the intensity in his eyes and his clenched fists betrayed the anger he was trying to suppress.
• “Aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend?” William asked, a hint of malice in his voice.
• “He’s not my friend, just a coworker,” I said, setting Caroline down on the ground.
