• “We’re here,” John announced, snapping me out of my thoughts. Reluctantly, I stepped out of the car and walked to the front door.
• “The alpha is waiting for you in the usual room,” said the guard at the entrance. I gave him a slight nod, followed his directions, and knocked softly on the door.
• “Come in,” the alpha called, his voice so low I almost missed it. When I pushed the door open, I found him on the couch with Caroline curled up, asleep, her head resting on his lap.
