Chapter 8 Mia
- I fainted and I don’t remember much of what happened after I blacked out. Opening my eyes, I was immediately surrounded by my family. I got up to face my mother’s worried face as she checked every single part of me to see if I was alright.
- “ Mia! Are you okay? Does it hurt anywhere? Why did you faint honey? Did someone do something to you?” My mother asked.
- “ Mary, I think she can only answer one question at a time and if you keep asking questions I doubt she will ever get a chance to speak.” My dad said, though he was worried, he looked amused by my mother’s actions.
- “ Oh I’m sorry for being worried about our daughter who suddenly started crying and even fainted, Josh!” My mother retorted. She was such a mess which broke my heart, she wasn’t usually Ike this and I think I was to blame because I scared her.
- “Mom, I am fine. Don’t fight with dad.” I said using the AI voice prompt.
- “ Oh, honey. You don’t have to hide anything. Just tell us, what’s wrong? Your dad and I will be sure to sort out all the things that are bothering you.” My mother said with a worried look.
- No, you can't was the first thought that came to my mind but the words got stuck at the tip of my tongue. I didn’t say them but though I didn’t say them, I knew they were true, which was why I decided to sort them out myself. Crying and fainting certainly wouldn’t stop their deaths, I would. And even if I didn’t know how, I would figure it out and protect them.
- “ Mia? What are you thinking about? What is it that you are not telling us?” My mother said again, I got lost in thought forgetting that I had a worried mother in front of me who was analysing my every move.
- “ I’m fine mom. Really, don’t worry. And if anything happens, you will be the first to know.” I said using the AI voice prompt and then smiled.
- My mother sighed.
- “ Mary, come on. She said she is fine, okay? Let’s be glad that she is and give her space. She will talk to us if she has a problem, right Mia?” My father said coming to my rescue.
- I nodded vigorously with a smile. I loved how he understood me so easily.
- “ Oh, alright.” My mother surrendered but she still had a worried look on her face.
- “ Alright, great. We have to go check on our guests now and let them know that you are fine. Let’s go, Mary.” My father said.
- “ What? No, who will stay with her?” My mother objected.
- “ I can stay alone, mom.” I said using the AI prompt.
- “ No. Absolutely not, Josh go downstairs alone.” She said.
- “ Mary, come on. That would be improper.
- We’ll let Kayla come in and stay with her.” My father frowned.
- My mom paused and I knew that she was thinking the same thing,it would be rude if she refused to go see the guests whoever they were.
- “ Fine. But call me if anything happens. Okay?” She said.
- And I nodded.
- “ Kayla, baby, please come in here.” My mom shouted.
- “Yes mom?” My sister said as soon as she entered my room.
- “ Stay with your sister, we are going to attend to the guests.” She instructed.
- “ Alright.” My sister said nodding her head.
- And my parents left the room.
- “ Who are the guests?” I asked her.
- “ Oh, just some healer and aunt June. Mom called them when you fainted.” She explained.
- Aunt June? That name left a bitter taste in my mouth. She was on my blacklist.
- “ They were really worried about you, you know? I had never seen mom so panicked ever since my first day of primary school where dad burnt my uniform.” She said seriously.
- And I laughed. “ That was hilarious though.”
- She laughed and said, “ Yeah, it was.”
- “ I was even happy because I didn’t want to go to school.”
- I nodded and said using the AI voice, “ Yeah, and I thought you burnt it yourself.”
- She nodded with a smile. “ I remember.”
- “ But sister, are you really okay? Like is there anything you want me to do? If mom and dad can’t help, maybe I can help.” She said seriously.
- I smiled and said, “ Come here.”
- She approached my bed and when she got close enough I puled her onto the bed and tickled her.
- “Ha,ha,ha,ha, sister stop please. Ha ha,ha ha.” She screamed but I didn’t stop until a while later.
- “ I’m fine. But if there’s anything I want you to do for me, it’s for you to be save, okay? There’s nothing else I would want aside from that.” I said.
- “ And promise me that should any strangers approach you, you must never trust them and make a run for it, okay?” I continued using the AI voice prompt.
- “ What?” She asked confused.
- “Just promise me.” I said firmly.
- She kept quiet for a long time before saying, “ Fine, I promise.”
- I smiled and hugged her. I knew that it must have been very weird and confusing for her but I could not tell her exactly what happened nor could I unsee what I saw in that videocall, and as it was a brunt memory in my mind, it would probably hunt me forever. So I was going to do everything in my power to make sure that my little sister is save even if it made me look like a weirdo in front of her and as though I was speaking gibberish. It didn't matter as long as she was save.
- ( knock, knock) A knock suddenly came from the door, looking up I saw one of the people I was not ready to see. I was still deciding if I she put her on the blacklist along with Aunt June and the others.
- “ Sorry, but your mom said that I could come in.” she said.
