- I had made up my mind: I was going to the party. It was my 18th birthday, and for the first time, I wouldn’t be celebrating with my family. As much as my heart ached at the thought, this year was different. I had a mission that needed my attention, and there was no turning back now. Taking a deep breath, I prepared to call my parents and break the news.
