Chapter 39 Mia

  • Ever since I’d seen Derek, my mind hadn’t stopped racing. There was this creeping feeling that if I could get closer to him, I might uncover something—maybe even get one step closer to the truth about the murderers from my past. But how could I approach him without being obvious?
  • “Dude! You really gotta stop staring,” Tracy’s voice broke through my thoughts, yanking me back to reality. She nudged me, her eyes darting over to a group of girls standing nearby who were glaring in our direction. “You’re gonna attract attention, and I mean not the good kind.”
  • I blinked, realizing just how obvious I must’ve been. “Sorry,” I muttered, but my curiosity still pulsed just beneath the surface, refusing to settle. We were outside, waiting for our PE class to start, while the trainers were huddled together, deep in some discussion. We had a few minutes to kill, but the time felt endless, my mind racing faster with every second I spent standing around, trying to keep my focus from drifting back to Derek.
