- We ran until we reached the assembly hall. People passing by glanced at us, probably thinking we were late, but that wasn’t the case. As soon as we stopped, I let go of the girl's hand, intending to slip away quietly. But before I could take more than a few steps, she caught my arm.
- “Th-thanks,” she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.
- I blinked, glancing down at her. “It’s fine,” I said with a small smile, though my mind was far from calm. A dull numbness clung to me. What had I just done? I hadn’t fully processed it. If what Tracy said was true, then this impulsive act could have serious repercussions. I really didn’t need more attention right now, especially if I wanted to complete my investigation without getting caught. But it was too late now. What’s done is done.
