Chapter 37 Birthday Party
- Sophie stirred awake, blinking against the light filtering into her room. She sat up, disoriented, scanning her surroundings. Slowly, recognition settled in—she was in her own bed. Her mind raced back to the events at school, the memory of Jane’s sneer hitting her like a slap.
- “Jane,” she groaned, her face contorting in frustration. “That, bitch!”
- Sighing heavily, she swung her legs off the bed, but something gnawed at her. How had she gotten home? As she crossed to her vanity, she reached her mirror stand, and caught her reflection—still in the same dress she had worn to school, her makeup smudged but mostly intact. Her hair was a mess, tousled as if she’d collapsed straight into bed. She quickly smoothed her hair, grabbed her bag, and hurried downstairs, her heart thumping as she entered the living room.
