• Max held tightly onto Sophie’s hand as she lay in the infirmary bed. The school nurse was focused on cleaning the small cut on her leg, and Max’s concern was etched across his face.
• “What were you so focused on, Sophie?” Max asked, his voice a mixture of worry and frustration.
• Sophie had tripped off the edge of the fence, and though Max managed to catch her before she fell, her leg grazed the wall, leaving a shallow but bleeding scratch. He’d rushed her here as fast as he could.
