- I woke with a searing headache, my vision clouded by specks of light that danced before my eyes. My body ached, and a quick attempt to move revealed the cruel truth—I was bound, hands and feet. My throat burned with thirst, my neck throbbed from what felt like a sharp blow. Slowly, I forced my eyes open, taking in the dimly lit space. A basement, perhaps, or a cave? The air was thick and damp. I lay on a cold, hard surface, my heart pounding with dread.
