- The morning light filtered weakly through the silk curtains as I woke from a deep, uneasy sleep. My mind, however, refused to let go of last night’s events—the memories, the secrets—clinging to me like a second skin. I sat up slowly, the silk sheets slipping from my body as I instinctively reached for my belly, the ghost of a life that would never be born stirring the pain buried deep within me.
- Korvus was gone. The space beside me was cold, the scent of his skin lingering faintly on the pillows.
