Chapter 35 Bed Of Lies

  • The next couple of weeks were like a living nightmare, one I simply couldn’t get myself to wake up from. I tried my best to stay busy, working my ass off at the internship, helping Mom at the store, and resuming my former community service. Lynn was mad at me again, and for good reason. She had asked me to stay away from Roselyn’s unpredictable flames, and I had let myself burn all over again. She insisted that I would find someone else, someone who would feel right from the very beginning. But nothing made sense to me at that moment. I was too hurt and too weak to think about anything else.
  • I threw myself into my work, in hopes of keeping my mind occupied. But, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't escape the town's gossip about Roselyn's fairy tale engagement and upcoming wedding. Everyone was talking about how perfect Brent was for her, this handsome, educated, rich, charming prince vibe no one seemed to resist. And it only served to make me feel worse.
  • As the days passed, the town's chatter only grew louder. The bakery displayed a custom cake with Roselyn and Brent's initials, and the florist showcased a sample of the bridal bouquet. Some guys at school even debated which celebrities would be performing at the wedding. One evening, my mother asked me why I hadn't been invited to the grand event, considering everything I had done for Roselyn in the past. I had to lie to her again, this time for my own peace of mind.
