I hang up and walk over to the door waiting for her. She parks the car and sits in it for a minute before finally coming out. She looks up and sees me, and the first thing I notice is that she isn’t smiling like she usually does. Maybe they scared her. I grit my teeth. I can’t wait to get my hands on whoever those fuckers are.
“Papi,” I pull her into my arms and hug her tightly before she can finish.
“I’m glad you’re safe, sweetie.”I pull away and give her a once-over to ensure she isn’t hurt.
“Safe?” She furrows her brows as if she is unaware of the situation she was just in.
“Carlos called. Who pulled you over? Did they hurt you? Why weren’t you picking up?”
