• The morning light filtered through the thin curtains of the hotel room, casting a soft, pale glow across the bed. I sat there, my back against the cold, wooden headboard, staring blankly at the ceiling. Justin was still asleep beside me, his tiny body curled up in a ball, his breathing soft and even. Emma had finally stopped crying hours ago, and now she lay tucked into the bed across the room, her small hands clutching the pillow as if it could anchor her in this storm I’d dragged her into.
