Chapter 6 Mercy

  • Xi Zhiheng froze. The word, 'abandon', was like a sharp dagger in his heart; he could never guarantee when this dagger would be removed, nor could he guarantee that he would never abandon her.
  • Xi Zhiheng's heart suddenly ached. He frowned and petted the head that was buried in his chest.
  • Last night, Housekeeper Liu had investigated the details of Yan Anmo's fight at school and retrieved a copy of the surveillance footage.
  • That was when Xi Zhiheng discovered, Yan Anmo had grown up.
  • The distinction between male and female had appeared in her world. She was beginning to develop feelings other than familial affection. She actually blushed when she saw the boy called, Su Ci, and she even let another male, apart from himself, hug her.
  • This was the main reason why Xi Zhiheng was upset. But, he was unwilling to admit to it.
  • So, he instead changed his focus.
  • "Yan Anmo, when you fight in the future, remember to be ruthless," Xi Zhiheng suddenly said.
  • Yan Anmo froze blankly and lifted her head with confusion.
  • "When someone bullies you, you must fight back. Fight with all your might and don't show any mercy."
  • Xi Zhiheng's serious gaze reflected in Yan Anmo's pupils. Her watery eyes were already enchanting when she was young; now that she had grown up, they were extra charming. A slight spark appeared in Xi Zhiheng's heart, almost producing an electric current.
  • "You can bully others, but others can never bully you."
  • "Understood?"
  • The short and simple words traveled into Yan Anmo's ears and she stopped crying. She never expected Xi Zhiheng to say something like this.
  • "Uncle Seven, you're not angry at me?" she asked as she stared at him.
  • "I'm angry that my Anmo was bullied."
  • My Anmo was bullied.
  • These four words were forcefully burnt into Yan Anmo's heart. The heat made her tremble, but she did not want to stop.
  • However, she had no idea how ridiculous these four words would sound many years later.
  • "I will be going abroad tonight. Remember to carry your phone with you at all times." Xi Zhiheng was meant to fly the previous night, but because of her incident, it was rescheduled to that night.
  • Yan Anmo had long been accustomed to Xi Zhiheng's busy schedule. But, everytime he went abroad, she was particularly afraid that there would be a thunderstorm.
  • "OK, I'll wait patiently for you to return," she said as she buried her head into Xi Zhiheng's chest and twisted her body coquettishly.
  • Xi Zhiheng's body reacted to something and instantly stiffened. He cleared his throat, pretending that nothing happened, and pushed Yan Anmo away as he walked past her.
  • "Come downstairs to eat."
  • At school.
  • Yan Anmo arrived at the school gates and spotted Su Ci among the crowd. He was looking around like he was waiting for someone.
  • Yan Anmo lowered her head subconsciously, squeezed herself into a group students and tried to walk inside.
  • "Yan Anmo!" Su Ci's eyes were sharp so he spotted her straight away. His shout caused everyone to follow his gaze.
  • Many girls cast jealous looks towards Yan Anmo, causing her to feel a little embarrassed.
  • Su Ci brushed everyone aside and rushed over to Yan Anmo. His handsome face looked particularly pleasant under the morning sun. Apart from Xi Zhiheng, Yan Anmo had never stood face-to-face with someone of the opposite sex before. So, her heart was dying from nervousness.
  • "Were you OK yesterday?"
  • "Dean Zhang is a snob, he--"
  • Hurry, look at this announcement. Dean Zhang's been fired!"
  • "Really?"
  • "Why was he suddenly fired?"
  • Before Su Ci managed to finish his sentence, a group of nosy students dragged him over to the school noticeboard. When Yan Anmo heard what had happened, she was shocked. She tightened the straps on her backpack and felt a little guilty.
  • She knew Dean Zhang had been fired because Xi Zhiheng was angry.
  • After seeing the announcement, Su Ci ran excitedly to Yan Anmo's side, "Yan Anmo, that b*st*rd's been fired!"
  • "We should celebrate."
  • "Celebrate?" Yan Anmo did not think of this as something worth celebrating.
  • "Both of us have suffered because of him, so we can sympathize with each other. Let me treat you to dinner after school," Su Ci sounded a little embarrassed when he said these words, but his character had always been straightforward.
  • "If you don't say anything, then I'll take it as a yes. You need to keep your promise!"
  • Yan Anmo stared blankly at Su Ci as he pretended to act cool and almost laughed out loud. This was her first male friend and it sent small ripples through her heart.
  • The entire day of classes was very boring. But, during every class, Su Ci passed Yan Anmo a small note, reminding her of their dinner that night.
  • When she received the notes, Yan Anmo was afraid that others would see it, so she secretly scrunched them into balls to throw away after class.
  • Finally, school finished for the day. Su Ci offered to help Yan Anmo pack her things before they walked out together.
  • When they reached the car that had arrived to pick Yan Anmo up, the driver stepped out to open the door for her.
  • "I'll have dinner tonight before going home. I'll give you a call later."
  • The driver glanced at Su Ci. He had driven Yan Anmo to and from school for many years, but he had never seen her with this male student.
  • "Miss, does the Young Master know about this?" the driver did not want her to leave with the boy.
