Chapter 1 Adopted

  • 3am. Thunder roared, lightning flashed, and rain fell heavily.
  • In the desolate suburbs, a dance hall surrounded by mud was still in operation and one dirty scene after another was playing out inside.
  • The 6-year-old Yan Anmo was hiding in a dark corner, her terrified eyes focused on the center of the stage. Holding her breath, she did not dare to make a move.
  • Her mother performed at this dance hall occasionally and she had drank too much again today.
  • She didn't understand why her mother was surrounded by a group of brutal and dirty men, she didn't understand what they had done to her, and she didn't understand why her mother's expression looked so painful. But, every single miserable cry that came from the stage was like a sharp dagger striking against Yan Anmo's heart, causing her to tremble in fear.
  • The men's hands repeatedly hit against her mother's body and a terrifying laughter resounded continuously from their mouths. Below the stage, onlookers seemed to be growing in excitement.
  • A tear suddenly rolled out of Yan Anmo's unblinking eyes and her stubborn little hands clenched quietly.
  • As time passed by, the lights on the stage continued to shine, but the woman's screams suddenly ceased.
  • A man on the stage placed his hand under the woman's nose and froze. Throwing her body aside, he ran out and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
  • Only then, did Yan Anmo see that her mother's clothes had been torn; her messy hair was spread on the floor, and her snow-white dress was beginning to turn red.
  • Yan Anmo felt like she lost control as she dragged her stiff body numbly through the crowd and approached her mother.
  • The feelings of panic and despair made her fall apart and she began to feel that the world was a dark place.
  • ...
  • The police station.
  • Officer Chen's heart ached as he looked at the 6-year-old girl in front of him. She was much prettier and well-behaved than the average girl. It was a pity that she had lost her mother at such a young age, but on top of that, she had no identity and was an unregistered child.
  • The police station was currently having a headache over this matter and Yan Anmo had been staying there for 3 days.
  • The girl had no father and her mother was violently killed at the dance hall. Their superiors had instructed them to send her straight to the welfare center, but all the officers that had seen Yan Anmo, couldn't bear to send her away, so they continued to delay it.
  • "Officer Chen, someone wants to adopt Yan Anmo. He is from overseas and he appears to have a decent identity," the intern, Liu, leaned into Officer Chen's line of sight nosily. The two of them subconsciously glanced at Yan Anmo, who was obediently eating her food, and felt happy for her.
  • "I don't care about his background. As long as he can take good care of Anmo, then he is a good person." As soon as Officer Chen was done talking, he saw a few people walk in. One particular man was tall and expressionless; his cold and distant presence shrouded the room. It was impossible to tear their eyes away from this cold and refined man, yet they were frightened by his sharp eyes that seemed to be carved in ice.
  • Everyone was controlled by his presence and the entire room fell silent.
  • His eyes were fixed on the front right of him, where a girl was eating and he began to approach her side, one step at a time.
  • Yan Anmo put down the spoon in her hand and lifted her delicate doll-like face timidly. The uneasiness in her eyes made her look like a frightened deer. She stared blankly at the god-like man as he approached her. He had no expression on his face, but he did not feel distant.
  • She watched as he reached out his hand and gazed at her with eyes as deep as a mountain.
  • His cold voice then sounded in her ear, "Are you willing to leave with me?"
