- I stayed in my room all afternoon with the door locked because I could not face anyone after the verandah slap and after Leonardo carried Adriana away like I was nothing.
- My cheek still stung a little but the pain in my chest hurt worse. I sat on the bed with my knees up and my phone on the blanket until it rang loud. Leonardo’s name showed on the screen. I let it ring four times before I answered.
