- The next morning, I walked into the sun-drenched dining room holding Denise’s hand because she still felt clingy after the nightmare. Crystal glasses sparkled on the table, silver cutlery lined up neat beside white plates.
- Leonardo already sat at the head. He looked up when we came in, smiled soft at Denise, then let his eyes stay on me longer than usual. I felt heat rise in my face because I remembered last night against the wall, his mouth, his promise.
