• Ivan sat next to his mate, Vera. He had a reluctant smile as if unsure whether he would tell her about the past. He knew that there was no escaping reality. His mate will support him no matter what, he thought to himself, trying to assure himself that what he was about to say would not dent their relationship.
• He held his mate’s hand, put it on his lap, and opened his mouth, recounting the events from his memory as if they were watching them together.
