Chapter 126 Determination

  • Horace sat behind his desk in the dimly lit study, a half-drunk glass of whiskey sweating on the wood. He had been pacing for nearly an hour before finally snatching up the phone and dialing Sid, one of his oldest foremen, the man he thought most likely to bend.
  • “Sid,” Horace began, his voice heavy but edged with command, “I need a favor. A small one. I want you to tail one of the Southside’s boats during their next pickup. Find out who their supplier is. I need a contact.”
  • There was a pause on the line, then Sid’s gruff voice came back, cautious and firm. “Boss, that’s against the code. You know it. If Southside catches me snooping around their supplier, I’ll be a dead man before sunrise. And worse, you’d have war on your hands.”
