Chapter 5
- Hunter
- "Don't you think you've done enough searching already? Maybe you-"
- I immediately cut him off. "There's no maybe Ian. You and I both know how important this is to me. There's no going back now" I voice out. Ian raised his hands in surrender. He always has a way of making me pissed. He knew how claiming the position was to me. "The silver pack is divided. It has happened before, I can't let it happen for the second time" I smoothened my tie turning around to face Ian.
- "Do you still think I'm doing this for my best interest?" I asked grabbing my suitcase that was lying on the bed. Ian shakes his head.
- "No, I don't. But you should cut yourself some slack. What if your mate is some weird, ugly girl" I passed him a glare in return.
- "Yours isn't an ugly one why would mine be ugly? And besides, a handsome hunk like me deserves a beautiful woman"
- "Have to remind you that you're not completely a human" And earned him a punch from me using the pillow next to me. We both burst into a fit of laughter. Ian is a wolf-like. Half wolf and half human. But his powers can't be measured with mine. I'm an Alpha. And my number one priority is to make the silver pack one again. I saw it getting destroyed. The wailing and the hopefulness in our people's eyes.
- I can't forget how my father was killed right before my eyes trying to save the silver pack. And the satisfaction on my uncle's face when the deadly massacre was happening. It has always been his wish to see the pack separated. To allow the enemies to rule us and claim it as his alone. But then Father wasn't angry about that. For, it will only bring destruction.
- I was still new to everything after my father's death. I could barely hold my wolf form. Uncle with his tricks manipulated me. And everything turned upside down.
- He assembled his pack with the enemies. The Dark Moon pack. And everything was not normal again. Every day, there must be at least one or two bad news. They either hurt the humans or kill them. And that has to be stopped. Before it gets worse.
- "Have you paid Papa a visit today?" Ian asked diverting my attention from my thinking.
- "You want him to give me another task when I've not completed the one at hand"
- Papa as we call him, is my grandfather from my mother's side. He was the one who brought me up even before my father's demise. He taught me everything. The strategies and tactics. I don't think anyone would be able to fool or manipulate me as I am now.
- He's been taking care of the silver pack since then. I'm yet to be passed the throne. The leader of the silver pack. And for that to happen, I have to complete my task. To find my mate. And that's what I've been searching for. For the past three months. And yet no sign of her.
- "I bet he would not let you be. It's been three months already. Do you think he can be that patient" Ian said.
- "He has no other option but to be patient. But my heart is telling me I will meet her very soon" Ian only patted my shoulder.
- "Good morning Mother" I pecked her on the cheeks as we appeared in the living room.
- "Morning Aunt" Ian also passed his greetings.
- "Morning Son. How was your night Ian?" She asked.
- "It was fine Aunt. I hope you had a peaceful sleep with all the events that transpired last night" Something flashed in her eyes. That distant look. I might not show concern but deep down, I dislike seeing my mother in any distressed situation.
- "I'm already used to it. So it's nothing to stress myself on" I know it bothers her more than ever. She just won't say it.
- "Oh, now I've turned into an invisible person. Since your favorite son is here" I said to lessen the thick uncomfortable I felt. Both of them passed me a glare.
- "Who are you? We don't know you" Ian was enjoying pissing me off. I know it.
- Seeing that if I kept watching the two while they teased me, I would be late for classes. And I'm very diligent in my work. I always see that I'm punctual in work. I was only given one course to teach as per my request. English literature. As I have other work. I can't always be available. I shifted the chair back and dragged myself off it.
- "What of breakfast?" Mom asked.
- "Will eat in school. I will be late"
- "See you later Hunter" Ian's voice revamped to my eardrums.
- "Don't pray to" I answered in return and made my way out. I fished out my car keys and unlocked the car door. Got in, and dropped my suitcase by the side.
- I drove out of the house and began my journey to the college. My phone chimed from the side.
- You haven't visited for a while.
- I knew it. The old devil will not leave me in peace. He was reminding me that I had a task to complete. The old man will not cut me some slack. I locked the phone and dropped it back to where it was sitting position increasing my speed as I drove away.
- I drove my car towards the driving space for the professors. "Good morning Mr. Hunter" I snapped my eyes shut and opened them again hearing her voice. Why do I have to bump into her this early morning?
- "Morning to you too Miss Laura" I answered without sparing her much glance. She was dressed in a dress that didn't pass her knees. The dress was hugged to her body. Her face was undoubtedly caked with makeup. As if she is going to a beauty pageant. Someone will never believe she is a teacher.
- "Are you heading to class?" She asked following me.
- "No, I'm heading to the office" I immediately regretted saying that. I thought she would be going to class directly.
- "I'm also heading to the office. Need to change out of these heels" I don't know whether it was to make me notice she was wearing heels. I have no idea why she was telling me that. If she wants to change her shoes, then what's my take on that?
- "That is very good Miss Laura"
- "Call me Laura. Feel free" I didn't miss the smile that resonated out of her when she said that. It almost made me laugh. To think the lady is hitting on me. Instead of it being the other way around. Little talks were exchanged between us as we made our way towards our office.
- Laura's office is the next room after mine. Sometimes, she checks in during lunch or when we're having a meeting. At first, I didn't give her that much face. But then, seeing how hard she was trying, I decided to be friendly towards her. But that doesn't mean I feel any activation towards her. She's a beautiful woman. But I don't do love. I have no place for love or any form of relationship in my heart. That is for sure.
- "By the way, are you aware of the upcoming student week activities?" She was still trying to make small talk.
- "Yes. In two days"
- "Okay. Hope you will be participating?" And that stopped me in my tracks and I turned to her.
- "I thought it was for students only" In return, she chuckled.
- "It is called a student week because all students will participate. But teachers also have one of two activities to take. Trust me this time around it will be a memorable one" I nodded in answer not sure of how to take in her information. My office door was already opened. Yet, she was still standing.
- "So, we'll see later," She said after a while and walked her way to her door. Not missing swaying her hips on the way. I won't deny Laura has that kind of body. The curves are perfect in their places.
- Don't tell me you're imagining wild thoughts with Laura. My inner voice echoes to me.
- I brushed off the thought out of my mind and pushed my office door open.
- I took my lecture materials and other things I needed with me and proceeded to the lecture theatre. From outside the door, I could hear noises all over. I know silence will prevail if I enter the room. And It happened.
- However, as I set my foot inside, the beating of my heart went twofold. I immediately perceive the familiar scent. Drawing me near. My eyes searched for them. And everything went still when I set my eyes on her. I found her. My mate. I know she feels it too. She feels the rhyming of our hearts. Bound together.
- I managed to peel my eyes off her and began my lectures. I was teaching yet, my mind was diverted. I couldn't seem to focus on what I was doing. I heard the sound of her laughter. It wasn't that loud but I could hear it. As low as it was.
- "Hey," I ushered through the microphone. She turned back around not knowing who I was referring to. I needed an excuse to let her out of my sight. So that I can focus.
- "You turning back. Get out of my class" I said again. This time around, she knew I was referring to her.
- "Me?" She asked confused.
- "I don't tolerate noise-making in my class. So get your dumb head out of my class" Okay maybe I was too harsh. I could feel how her heart sank.
- She exchanged some words with the girl sitting next to her before standing up. My heart sank as she proceeded to make her way out.
- "You're banned from attending my class for the next one month" I immediately regretted saying that. I wasn't supposed to act that way towards my mate. Meeting her for the first time. Yet, I did.
- I watched as she left the lecture hall. I need to settle and take in everything. I finally found her. My mate. Now the old man will free me. Just the mere thought excites me. Ian wouldn't want to miss this news. I managed to divert my attention to my teaching.
- After I rounded up the class, I went straight to my office, locked the door, and dialed Ian's number. "Hey Man what's up?" Came his voice.
- "Guess what happened?"
- "You won an award for the best punctual professor" I hissed in return.
- "You know you're a mood spoiler. I'm talking serious and you're bringing some sort of award talks"
- "Sorry Man. Let me guess..." He trailed off. I leaned my back on the desk while I waited for him to guess.
- "You met her?" He said much like a question.
- "Yes, I did. But Man, I almost fuck up" I answered suddenly getting nervous.
- "What did you do? Don't tell me you showed her your wolf form"
- "I'm not that stupid. I banned her from attending my classes for the next one month"
- "What!" His shout followed.
- "Keep it low guy. That's not something serious. What I'm facing now is how to explain things to her"
- "Are you asking me that? Hunter himself?"
- "Bye"
- I know telling him will be a wrong move. He will only make matters worse. I've been searching for her for a while. Three months. There's no way I'm backing out now. I sent a quick text to Papa to let him know I would be visiting. I can't wait to get the task off my head.
- My phone vibrates with a message. I thought it was Papa. To my surprise it was Ian.
- All the best Hunter!!
- I smiled at the wink emoji he attached. I searched the list of students in my class and came across hers. "Rose" I whispered staring at her picture intently.
- I sent a quick text to Ian. Find out everything about her. Rose Greyson McCarthy.
- I gathered my stuff to call it a day. What I normally do. Whenever I'm down with classes, I don't waste any more time in school. I didn't take a step when I felt something strike me. My heart clenched. My mind immediately wandered to Rose. She's in danger. Without thinking, I sauntered for the door. I bumped into Laura ready to knock on my door. "Em.."
- "Sorry, we'll talk later" I didn't wait for her reply.
- Her scent was all over my nose. The beast in me is about to unleash. As I got closer to the school infirmary, her scent grew more. What could she be doing in there? Is she hurt? As I entered inside, it was consciously quiet. You won't be able to tell someone is inside. I walked more inside when my heart increased and I began hearing her voice.
- I unleashed the beast in me and changed to my wolf form. Banging the door down. Eyes to eyes, movement stopped. Everything went still as she stared at me. Come to me, Rose.
- And she began moving forward but then everything turned over and she went down to her knees. And went unconscious right before my eyes. My mate.
