Chapter 3

  • Rose
  • "Why am I feeling this?" I asked no one in particular. My mind wandered to how his dark, alluring eyes attacked mine. There was something in his eyes that got me curious. Why?
  • The chiming from my phone made me divert my attention from my thoughts.
  • Come to the school infirmary, Rose.
  • My brows knit in confusion at the message. No name or number. Who could it be? It could be a spam message, but then my name was included. I checked around my surroundings for any sign of someone but found none. I knew if I wanted to, I could ignore the message, but then my name being involved made me curious.
  • The school infirmary? Where would I start looking for it? I barely knew places in the school. "Forget about it, Rose. There are lots of girls with the name Rose," I said out loud. I deleted the message to not even think about it.
  • "Let me go get a coffee to clear my head," I let out a smile, feeling lighthearted at my good idea.
  • A sharp breath made its way out of me as I spared the door a glance. "Why are you here, Rose? Thought you were supposed to grab a coffee."
  • Because here's where you belong.
  • I felt like I heard a voice whisper that to me, but when I assessed my surroundings, it was eerily quiet. You could hardly see anyone. I inhaled and exhaled a short breath before setting my hand on the entrance door and pushing it open. The door made a weird sound, even though I closed it gently behind me.
  • Some part of me was warning me to turn and leave, and another voice at the back of my mind was ushering me in, leading me inside. I walked through the quiet hallway, conscious of my surroundings. "Hello," I said in a not-so-loud voice. However, due to how quiet it was, my voice echoed all around.
  • "Anybody here?" I said again. My voice resounded in my ears.
  • I stopped in front of the treatment room. Like someone whose mind was being controlled, I turned the door knob and stepped inside. The white curtains were billowing in the wind.
  • Rose
  • My heart skipped when I heard the same voice at the back of my mind. Yet, there was no sign of anyone. "Hello. Who's h-"
  • "Hello, Rose," I literally flinched at the voice behind me.
  • "Who are you?" I asked, staring him down. He looked shady and rough.
  • "Don't you remember me?" Even the sound of his voice screamed suspicious. Yet, it's funny that I was curious to know who the person standing in front of me was.
  • "I don't know you. And are you the one that sent the message? How did you know my name, and how did you get my number?" I asked all at once. He stepped forward, which made me step back, clutching my bag tightly around my shoulder.
  • "That doesn't matter. What matters is you're here. With me again."
  • "Again?" I repeated, getting more confused. Last time I checked, I had not met him before.
  • "Yes. How you slept so soundly in my arms. It was a moment to remember." Now that he mentioned it, could he be the guy?
  • "Are you Rob?"
  • The corner of his lips twitched up into a smile. For some reason, I found it weird. "Do you remember me now, love?"
  • He took more steps forward, and I took more steps back. The smile was still plastered on his face. Nora's words rang in my head.
  • "Thank you for taking me home. So if you will excuse me, I have class to attend." Maybe I thought thanking him would be enough. I barely took two steps when he held me by the arm.
  • "Where are you going, love? We've not gotten to the real deal yet."
  • Is this guy okay? An annoyed breath made its way out of me. "I'm sorry, but I don't have anything to do here. And stop calling me love. I'm not your love. Thanks for the help again." I tried to pull his hand away from mine.
  • "What are you doing? Let me go."
  • "Like I said, love, we've not gotten to the real deal yet." This time around, his smile was replaced with a smirk.
  • "Let me go, Rob! I'm not here for any 'real deal' thing you're saying." I was almost pissed. I don't even know why I came to the infirmary in the first place.
  • "I will see how he's going to save you." That stopped me from trying to free myself from his hold.
  • "Who are you talking about? Stop playing mind games, Rob. Let me go this instant!" I exclaimed, my voice rising this time around. However, it was as if I was only talking in vain.
  • "Not until he appears before me. I wi-" He didn't get to complete his statement when a loud bang resonated from behind us. My legs almost gave out from the sound. Not to mention my beating heart that was hammering as if it would rip apart.
  • "Oh, he's here earlier than I expected."
  • "Welcome, Hunter."
  • "Meet your mate, Rose."
  • Eyes glued to the figure, movement stopped, heart beating increased twofold. My head whirled at the giant creature before me. I had read and heard a lot of stories about werewolves and their forms but never thought a day would come when I would come face to face with one. And a mate? This must be a dream, right? So the letter wasn't a joke? Wolves don't exist. They are just superstitions and human fantasies. How will I become someone's mate? It's not possible. Is it?
  • Everything went still as I locked eyes with the creature. The voices began echoing in my head again.
  • Rose.
  • Come to me.
  • You belong to me.
  • And like someone who is being possessed, my legs began moving toward his direction. My heart was increasing twice its normal beating. However, everything turned around, and I found myself falling down on my knees. A disturbing sound penetrated through my ears. I covered my ears with both my palms, closing my eyes as it got louder. Before I fell into a pit of darkness, I heard the voice again.
  • Rose.
