Chapter 57 What Will Happen Next?
- I approach her slowly and hug her tightly, immediately feeling the weight of my distress over what happened last night. I can’t believe I was with Will; that’s not who I am. In that moment, I don’t know what words to say to Tania; I just need the comfort of her embrace as lifelong friends. She returns the hug and leads me to the couch so we can sit together. As I let my sadness wash over me and sob in her arms, I catch a glimpse of Ryan leaving the room, probably giving us space to talk privately.
- Tania quietly moves toward where Ryan has gone and whispers something in his ear, but the message gets lost in the air, and I can’t catch it. In a quick motion, Ryan grabs the keys and rushes out of the apartment, leaving us alone. I deeply appreciate Tania’s gesture, as she has always been a caring and understanding friend. She looks at me tenderly, as if she understands that something is tormenting me, even if she doesn’t know the exact details.
- Feeling a lump in my throat, I gather all my inner strength. At that moment, Tania hands me a napkin. I thank her for her thoughtfulness and use the napkin to wipe away the tears that have left streaks on my face.
