- Before Shirley could step out of the room, she heard Mrs. Nelson's voice from outside, "Lillian, take this late-night snack to Keith in the study, he wants to eat tonight! Oh, and some fruit too, peel it and take it over to him."
- Lillian's cheerful voice immediately responded, "Okay, Mrs. Nelson, I'll take it over right away!"
- Shortly after, Shirley heard Lillian knocking on the door of the neighboring study.
