Chapter 6 Adding Insult to Injury

  • As Ava watched the sight, her eyes seemed to have been shaded with a layer of dark fog. The increasing number of people who had surrounded her made her somewhat fidgety.
  • “Go away now!” Soon, the police outside the court stepped in and stopped these people from blocking the entrance.
  • ...
  • The atmosphere inside the car was somewhat stuffy. Keira could even hear the sound of the wind whisking across her face.
  • “Thanks for playing along just now.” The sound wave of Tyler’s voice transmitted through the air, yet she didn’t reply.
  • Her mind was a mess, but it wasn’t because of what happened earlier. Instead, she was contemplating on many issues, including her real identity.
  • Seeing that she remained silent, Tyler gave her a glance and questioned, “Didn’t you hear what I said?”
  • “Is Ava your girlfriend?” Not knowing what to say, Keira asked him a random question.
  • It was Tyler’s turn to fall silent as he focused on the road.
  • Keira turned to look at him and asked, “Didn’t you hear what I said?”
  • Just when she was wondering how he’d reply to her, the man uttered, “She’s not.”
  • “Well… are you trying to hide it from me?” Keira rolled her eyes and fell silent. Well, he’s just someone I’ve met twice… No, including this time, we’ve met three times, so he’s basically a stranger to me. There’s no need for me to speak to him at all.
  • Tyler went on to send her back to Whitlaw Residence. “Alright, you can get off now.”
  • Keira was stunned as she looked at him, but she didn’t immediately get out of the car.
  • “What’s wrong? Do you want to stay in my car for a while more? Unfortunately, I’m not interested in you,” Tyler uttered in a blunt manner. There was no emotion on his unbelievably handsome face.
  • Upon hearing that, Keira frowned and refuted, “I’m sorry, but playing hard to get doesn’t work on me. I’m not interested in you either.”
  • After that, she stared seriously at him. “My question is—how do you know where I live?”
  • I had never told him my address on our way here. How did he find out about it?
  • In a dispassionate manner, Tyler replied, “You’re indeed fresh out of college, so you’re still quite naive. Why would I not know where my target is? Even if it’s on the moon, I’ll still be able to find it!”
  • Keira was stunned when she heard that. Just when she wanted to ask more questions, the man demanded, “Stop wasting my time and get out of my car now. My time is very precious.” He coldly stopped her from saying anything.
  • Keira decided to keep her mouth shut and looked away. After that, she opened the door and got out of the car. Without taking one more glance at her, Tyler started the engine and left the place.
  • “What an arrogant guy!” That was Keira’s remark on the man. After she stepped into the house, she realized that no one was around.
  • Sensing that something was off, she hurriedly fished out her phone and called her younger brother. Upon hearing what her brother said, she was dumbfounded.
  • My mom had passed out because she was hit hard by this incident, and she was sent to the hospital? My goodness! Why did this happen?
  • After she arrived at Bellington Hospital, she first met her brother and sister. When she saw her unconscious mother, who was connected to a ventilator, she was extremely worried.
  • My dad has fled, and now my mom is unconscious. When it rains, it pours, huh?
  • The Whitlaw siblings kept watch on their mother, Tasha Ford, day and night. However, they hadn’t expected that when their mother woke up with amnesia.
  • According to the doctor, their mother suddenly passed out and lost her memory because she was hit hard by a heavy blow, and the chance of her recovering was slim.
  • “Mom…”
  • The Whitlaw siblings were drenched in tears as their hearts were heavy. What happened to her mother made Keira utterly heartbroken.
  • “Don’t cry, my sister and brother. We have to stay strong! Stay strong! We’ll take care of our mom together,” Keira said with teary eyes. Her brown eyes seemed determined.
  • Right then, her phone started ringing. She picked it up, and upon hearing what the other person said, her already pale face turned a shade whiter.
  • After the call ended, she hung her hand low. Her eyes appeared hollow and out of focus.
  • “The bank demands that we repay our debts in one week. Otherwise, they’ll confiscate all our properties…” Keira uttered with a heavy heart. Unable to take it anymore, she started sobbing again.
  • The news was akin to adding insult to injury.
  • The siblings hugged each other and started bawling, as they couldn’t get out of this seemingly endless sorrow.
  • Where’s the road ahead for our family? Will we get a chance to live?
  • The next morning, Keira and her younger brother, Kendall Whitlaw, arrived at their father’s company.
  • What came into their sight was utterly disappointing. Basically, no one worked at the company anymore, as the people there were mostly creditors.
  • All the money had been taken away, so the company was practically an empty shell now.
  • When the people at the company saw the Whitlaw siblings, they immediately surrounded them.
  • These people cursed at them and demanded that they repay their debts. Some of them even attempted to beat the siblings up.
