Chapter 8 Claim It as Ours

  • Tyler squinted and spoke over the intercom. “Please tell Harrison to come and see me.”
  • Not long after that, the president’s assistant, who had a noticeable ponytail, came into the office. “Looking for me, boss?”
  • Tyler shot a gaze at him and took a few steps forward to the large architectural model of a building right in front of him. Then, he pointed at a huge lawn to the east of the model and said, “What’s taking you so long to settle the matter about the land at Eastin Street in Ashford City? Haven’t you found its owner?”
  • In response, Harrison looked in the direction that Tyler was pointing as his gaze darkened. It turned out that there was a piece of land there that Tyler had set his eyes on since two months ago.
  • Although Harrison was sent to negotiate about the land’s acquisition long ago, he couldn’t continue his mission when he failed to find the owner. In fact, he failed because he didn’t even know who the owner of the land was, so the negotiation couldn’t proceed despite their desire to acquire the land. However, things seemed to take a turn for the better when they finally found some clues after several investigations.
  • “Boss, here is a will that includes the land as its property, which is not for sale. Besides, it’s also stated that the will shall only come into effect after the owner’s death. As a result, the asset will automatically belong to the benefactor whose name is stated in the will.” Harrison soon handed over a thumb drive to Tyler. “I just got this yesterday. Here is all the information my man has gathered about the will.”
  • Tyler then took the pen drive and inserted it into his computer, only to see an encrypted file, but before he could ask, Harrison quickly answered, “Boss, the password is your birthday.”
  • Tyler knitted his eyebrows upon hearing that answer. However, he didn’t say anything in response as he went on to key in the password and opened the file. Upon going through all the files related to the will, he had his gaze darkened in a preoccupied manner. “So, this piece of land is left behind by Harvey for Keira?” Tyler took his eyes off the computer screen and looked at the man beside him.
  • “That’s right, boss. Harvey wrote this will before he died, and the benefactor is none other than Miss Whitlaw,” Harrison replied.
  • While Tyler contemplated in a serious manner after hearing his assistant, something flashed across his mind. “This piece of land at Eastin is utterly valuable, so why would Harvey even do that?” Tyler wondered ponderously, with a pair of darkened eyes on his chiseled face.
  • “Well… I guess I don’t know the answer to that, boss, but it seems to me that there is more than meets the eye about the relationship between both of them.” Harrison reckoned that the matter was more complicated than it appeared to be.
  • Tyler glacially chuckled before he asked, “Who else do you think is a better schemer than Kennedy? I don’t think anyone in the world can top that man when it comes to deceptions and evil plans.”
  • This seems pretty obvious to me. If the truth is like what I imagine, Keira was probably Harvey’s biological daughter. In the meantime, Kennedy murdered Harvey and made Keira his scapegoat, which means—Keira could be found ‘guilty’ of patricide! What an evil scheme! When this man devised his plan, he did it to eradicate his targets once and for all.
  • “Well, I guess only Keira’s mother, Tasha, knows whether Keira was Harvey’s daughter,” Harrison answered upon a brief contemplation.
  • Tyler responded with silence and shifted his gaze to the delicate pen in his hand before he asked in a hushed tone, “What did the doctor say?”
  • “Tasha was in a coma until she came around recently. However, she’s lost all her memories, including her three children.” Harrison gazed at Tyler as his eyes lit up slightly.
  • In response, Tyler curled his lips upward in an unconcerned manner, fixing his eyes on the photo of the will on the monitor screen. “Really? That sounds like some good news to me. We could use that to our advantage and pull a few strings to claim that piece of land as ours!”
  • “Boss…” Harrison solemnly frowned and said, “This piece of land cannot be used for any trading. Not even Keira herself can do that. It has been stated in the will that Keira and her future spouse can only possess or use but never sell the land.”
  • Tyler didn’t say anything but shifted his cursor to the bottom of the photo on his monitor screen and saw a remark written at the bottom. In that case, that means I can’t use that land for business even though Keira owns the land. Tyler’s eyes squinted for a moment as he said, “It looks like… the Whitlaw Family is falling apart even without us resorting to our desperate measures.”
  • “Boss, we haven’t gotten to the mastermind behind, and if we act now, we’re going to lose all the fun. So what’s your plan, boss?” Harrison asked, revealing a glacial look on his face.
  • Tyler smiled in silence and waved his hand while Harrison politely nodded and retreated from the office. As he was about to reach the door, he heard Tyler’s voice from behind him. “Don’t use my birthday as a password ever again.”
  • Harrison paused for a second and replied, “Alright, boss.” Fine, if that’s what he insists. After all, I only used his birthday as a password so that he could remember it easier.
  • After Harrison was gone, Tyler’s eyes fell upon the will on his computer screen once again, whereupon he mumbled to himself, “What a waste! Just imagine the profit this piece of land could generate.” Then, he walked to the bar table and poured himself a glass of wine before taking a few sips to collect his thoughts.
