Chapter 2 Taking the Fall for Her Father

  • Just then, the rain started falling from the sky outside the hotel.
  • Keira covered her head with her bag and dashed toward the road. Just when she was ready to cross the road and get her car, a luxury car suddenly charged toward her. Dazzled by the headlamps, she quickly stepped backward.
  • However, it was too late, as she fell to the ground when the car reached her.
  • “Ah!” A shriek broke through the air.
  • The black Bugatti Veyron stopped.
  • A strikingly handsome man in the backseat narrowed his eyes, which seemed to have darkened for a moment. However, his gaze soon became clear again.
  • “Boss, I think we’ve crashed into someone. I’ll deal with it.” A man with a ponytail, who was in the driver’s seat, reported to the man in the backseat. However, the latter remained silent while his seemingly bottomless dark gaze appeared glacial.
  • After that, the long-haired man got out of the car and took a glance at the woman. “Miss, are you alright?”
  • Upon hearing that, Keira raised her head, which revealed her delicate but pale face.
  • When the man in the backseat saw her face, his gaze suddenly turned gloomy.
  • It’s her? However, Tyler Emerson just curved his lips into a contemptuous smile and remained in the car.
  • “I-I’m fine,” Keira replied.
  • Before she could say anything else, the long-haired man fished out a pile of cash from his clothes and dropped it in front of her. “For you.”
  • Keira was startled for a moment and wanted to reject him. Nevertheless, the banknotes had already come into contact with the ground and were all dampened.
  • Without uttering a word, she glared at the person’s figure. After the long-haired man entered the car, he stepped on the gas pedal, upon which the car whizzed past her and caused the puddle on the ground to splash at her.
  • Staring at the cash on the ground, Keira was frustrated and pissed off.
  • Nonetheless, she still decided to take the money. Although she grew up in the Whitlaw Family, which ensured that she didn’t have to worry about money, her mother had always taught her the value of money and the principles a human should live by. Therefore, she was unlike other young ladies from rich families who were bad-tempered and willful.
  • After quickly picking up the banknotes, she wiped them with her sleeve and stuffed them into her bag.
  • Following that, she crossed the road and got into her own car before heading to her father’s company.
  • After she opened the door, what came into her sight was her father, Kennedy Whitlaw, pacing around in his own office.
  • There was a man lying on the couch on the other side. His hand hung low as blood was still streaming down the back of his hand. The floor around the couch had been covered in blood, so the sight looked rather horrifying.
  • “Dad!” Keira exclaimed as her body trembled in fright.
  • “Don’t shout, Keira! I didn’t mean to kill Harvey, but he had crossed the line! I was forced to do this! It’s all his fault!” Kennedy growled with a flustered expression.
  • Keira was stunned. Harvey? Harvey Bates? He had always doted on me, but he was killed by my dad! My God! How did this even happen?
  • Whitlaw Incorporated was founded by her father and Harvey, so they were as close as biological brothers. They had always been on good terms since they started building the company, so it was inconceivable that her father would murder his best friend one day.
  • Nevertheless, what her father was about to say would shock her even further.
  • In fact, Harvey and her mother had hooked up with each other; both of them had betrayed her father. Kennedy had been putting up with it for a long time, but Harvey came to threaten him again.
  • At this moment, Keira was so flabbergasted that it was as though her cells were also shuddering.
  • All of a sudden, Kennedy grabbed her arms and said, “Keira, only you can help me now. If you take the fall for me, our family will be safe.” Upon finishing his words, he looked apprehensively at his daughter.
  • Keira was shaken to the core as she was lost for words. Did he just say he wants me to take the fall? This is murder! How am I supposed to admit it? Is he really my father? How could he say such a thing?
  • Clenching her shoulders, Kennedy shook her violently and said, “Keira, just tell the police that Harvey tried to molest you, but you resisted him and accidentally stabbed him. This is self-defense, so you’ll be fine! You’ll only be sentenced to a few years in jail at most! Moreover, you’re my daughter. After you get out of jail, you’ll still be a young lady, and no one can ever harm you. Keira, you have to help me! Our family relies on me now. If I go to jail, our family will also be doomed!” Kennedy stared fixedly at her daughter as if he wanted to form a hole in her face with his piercing gaze.
  • “Dad…” Keira gazed at her father in shock, as she was both saddened and enraged. I’m his daughter! How does he have the heart to make me go to jail in his stead?
  • Just then, Keira put on a sneer. This would prove to be the most memorable day in her life.
  • Earlier, she was enjoying herself at her own birthday party, but she ended up losing her precious first time. After that, her fiancé, whom she had been in love with for the past four years, called off the marriage. Nevertheless, fate didn’t seem to have the intention of letting her off! Her father wanted her to take the fall and go to jail!
  • In just one day, she fell from heaven to hell as she turned from a wealthy young lady into a prisoner. She had practically lost everything—her fiancé, her family, her modesty...
  • Now, she was left with nothing.
  • What on earth is going on?
  • She felt as though a secret plot had engulfed her like a web, but she couldn’t evade it, nor did she know the reason.
  • A moment later, she uttered, “Dad, I believe that Mom must have gotten together with Mr. Bates because she was fooled. If you’re willing to forgive her, spend the rest of your life with her and take good care of my siblings, then I…”
  • She took a deep breath and tried to stop her tears from sliding down her face. A while later, she went on to say, “I’m willing to go to jail for you. Take it as that I’m returning your favor for raising me.”
