Chapter 11 Into the Civil Affairs Bureau

  • Keira was rendered speechless by Tyler’s reply, but she soon found her voice and warned the man to stay away from her family. “I don’t care what your goal is, but if you want to seek revenge on the Whitlaw Family, I will not rest until I stop you.”
  • Tyler responded with a pair of smiling eyes as he curled his lips upward, yet the expression on his face wasn’t a pleasant one until a few moments later. “Keira, your last name isn’t even Whitlaw, so… you’re not the person whom I want to exact my revenge on.” Tyler finished his words and looked away as he was ready to leave the place.
  • When he walked past her, she looked askance at him and questioned the purpose of his decision. “You must have an ulterior motive, or you wouldn’t help a stranger you barely even know, would you?”
  • Tyler stopped in his tracks and shot a gaze at her, as if he could read her mind. “What do you think my ulterior motive is, then?” He then walked away with his head held high.
  • At that moment, Keira’s eyes were filled with surprise and disbelief as she wondered whether he was in love with her. No way! That isn’t possible at all. He doesn’t seem like he is in love with me at all. After all, why would a man who has been through so much fall for me? Deep down, she didn’t believe in love at first sight, thanks to her traumatizing romance with Jonathan previously.
  • Soon, Keira returned to the Whitlaw Residence, whereupon she heard from her brother that he had just found a new home and was ready to move in two days later. Upon hearing the news, she forced a smile without saying anything and only picked at her dinner before going to bed.
  • The next morning, Keira’s phone rang as she realized it was a call from the number that ended with four eights. Upon answering it, she heard the caller’s voice before she could even respond. “Hey, I’m downstairs, so come down now and make sure you take everything necessary with you.”
  • While Keira didn’t say a single word in response, the man hung up the call right away. Then, she hesitantly rummaged through her mother’s drawer for what she needed and put on the clothes she wore the day before. Upon leaving the doorstep, she made her way to the car and sat inside quietly.
  • In the meantime, Tyler didn’t say a single word and only kept his eyes on the road in a calm manner, like it was something common and normal. Soon, they arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau just when the man said, “Let’s go. I don’t have all day. I have a meeting to attend later.” He felt his heart skinning when he looked in her direction.
  • In response, Keira darted an awkward look at Tyler in silence and entered the building with him. As the process went on smoothly, her expression appeared to be stiff until everything was complete when they received their marriage certificate. On the other hand, Keira stared blankly at the marriage license like everything was all a dream to her while Tyler dragged her out of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
  • It wasn’t until Keira saw the rising sun outside that she snapped out of her trance, but somehow, she was still trying to make sense of everything that had just happened. Oh my gosh! I was a maiden a second ago, but now I’m someone’s wife. This is happening way too fast, and I’m seriously not used to it.
  • “Get in. I’ll take you home first,” Tyler let go of her hand and said.
  • “Thank you, Mr. Emerson. Please take me to Bellington Hospital in that case. Today is the day my mom is discharged from the hospital.” Keira expressed her gratitude to Tyler.
  • Tyler looked at her as they continued to walk forward. “I’m now your husband, so just call me by my name, Tyler.”
  • “Oh, alright,” Keira responded affirmatively and remained silent until she got into the car. “You could call me Keira too instead of Miss Whitlaw.” Well, I’m already married, so I guess I must get used to a new life with this man. Alas! This is pathetic! How did I end up marrying a man I’m not even in love with?
  • Meanwhile, Tyler didn’t reply with a single word as he inserted his key into the keyhole and released the handbrake before starting the engine. Soon, he indifferently gave the lady an affirmative hum. “Alright.”
  • As they made their way back to where they came from, neither of them said a word to break the silence. But Keira understood that their relationship was no longer the same as before because they were now spouses instead of strangers. Nevertheless, she couldn’t help but feel a twinge of pain when she peeked at the man who was concentrating on the road, finding her fate ironically miserable.
  • In that instant, the car was filled with a strange and oppressive silence until Tyler seemingly noticed the odd vibe. Thus, he proceeded to turn on the radio, only to realize they were all English rock music. While they were songs that should get any listener hyped up, Keira didn’t seem to appreciate them like everyone else. Thus, she frowned slightly, but the man was able to notice that little gesture as he turned off the music the next moment.
