Chapter 13 The Celebrity’s Scheme

• Later that evening, Harrison arrived at the hospital to pick Keira up. Both of them remained silent all the way throughout the journey until they arrived at the Emerson Empire State building. Then, Keira looked up at the tall building and she reluctantly admitted that the building indeed looked more magnificent than Whitlaw Incorporated.
• “This way, Miss Whitlaw.” He walked closer to her and politely showed her the way.
• Nevertheless, she responded with silence as she nodded and entered the building with him. As she expected, many eyes fell upon her when she set foot in the lobby, but she ignored those gazes and went straight to the elevator before heading up to the president’s office. At that moment, Tyler was in the middle of a meeting while Harrison took her to Tyler’s office for her to wait there.
• Soon, Keira began to grow bored from waiting in the magnificent-looking office with a restrained manner until she saw the magazines under the table. Therefore, she took a global magazine and flipped through it, realizing that the content was about the stories of all successful people. As she continued to skim through a few pages, she stumbled upon the history behind Emerson International’s glory. Wow! So, this company went through its fair share of struggles as well before eventually becoming well known across the globe. Man! Those setbacks that stood in their way to success were nothing anyone could ever imagine.
• When she read about Tyler’s biography, it was written with only a line of a few words, leaving room for readers to imagine about this man. ‘He is a mysterious legend.’ What a line to create mystery around this corporate president!
• Suddenly, the office’s door was opened from the outside, whereupon someone walked into the room. Then, an attractive lady with long hair came into view as her floral-patterned dress accentuated her gorgeous appearance and her graceful movements seemed like those of an elegant celebrity.
• “Ava?” Keira immediately recognized the lady.
• In response, Ava turned her attention to Keira sitting on the couch before she herself revealed a surprised look. A few seconds later, Ava walked up to her with a smile and responded, “It’s you, Keira!”
• “Yeah.” Keira gazed at Ava while finding Ava’s beautiful looks to be a sight for sore eyes. Ever since she’s a celebrity, she can now confidently walk with her head held high now. Soon, she recalled the old days when Ava and her family had to struggle with their destitute life. Then, when her parents divorced, Ava stayed with her mother. In the meantime, her inferiority complex kept her from having a normal social life in school as no one was willing to be friends with her—except Keira.
• “When we met at court that day, I was thinking of catching up with you but didn’t have the chance to tell you that until now. Anyway, Tyler is coming and I’m going to turn his dinner appointment down for us, Keira. The two of us are going to have so much to talk about!” Ava said with a grin as her graceful movements caused Keira to be spellbound.
• In response, Keira gazed at her with a smile and replied, “You’ve changed so much, Ava.”
• “Really? Have I changed for the better or worse?” Ava maintained her smile as she squinted.
• “The better, of course! You’re getting prettier!” Keira answered in a straightforward manner.
• “The same goes for you! You’re a beauty and it’d be a waste if you’re not a celebrity.” Ava chuckled and naturally sat closer to Keira.
• Keira shook her head without saying anything. Deep down, she felt after meeting Ava again, she had returned to their old and carefree days. While both ladies continued their pleasant chat, Ava even rested her head on Keira’s shoulder with a smile. “I remember I always used to rest my head on your shoulder when we looked at the stars and the moon in the sky. How wonderful that was!”
• “Yeah, those days were so wonderful.” Keira smiled as she reminisced about those memorable moments in their youth.
• “Keira, did you know that I made a wish to the starry sky at that time?” Ava looked at her friend with her eyes brightening.
• “What did you wish for then?”
• “I wished for both of us to be happy forever and ever!”
• Upon hearing that, Keira paused in a trance as her brown-colored irises shone, as if she could tell that Ava sincerely treasured their friendship from Ava’s eyes.
• Meanwhile, Ava gazed at her friend without blinking as she continued to express her genuine feelings. “If both of us ever happen to fall in love with the same man, I will stay away from your relationship because I made a promise that I want you to be happy. In that case, love him for me. Love him with your life.”
• With that, Ava revealed a sweet smile and there was nothing unusual on her face. Before Keira could respond further, Ava rose to her full height and grabbed her Chanel purse, whereupon she elegantly walked toward the exit.
• “Ava!” Keira called out to her friend while somehow feeling guilty.
• “I need to make a move now. Promise me you’re going to enjoy your moment with him. By the way, this is my business card. Don’t forget to give me a call later at night. We’ll find a day to catch up again!” Ava smiled and replied as she took a name card from her purse and gave it to Keira.
• Meanwhile, Keira watched as her friend left, noticing the gentle look on Ava’s face. When her eyes shifted to the card in her hand, she was overwhelmed by complicated feelings inside her. So, Ava is indeed in love with Tyler, but I unknowingly took that away from her.
