Chapter 10 Let’s Get Married

  • Meanwhile, Tyler, who had just finished smoking the last cigarette from his second cigarette box, kept looking at his surroundings restlessly in a room at a restaurant in Provence.
  • Deep down, he reckoned he wouldn’t be wasting time waiting there if it weren’t for his ulterior motive. Nevertheless, the long wait eventually caused his patience to wear thin as he impatiently stubbed out his cigarette and walked out the door. When he reached for the door and opened it, he suddenly felt something bumping into his head.
  • “Ouch! It hurts!” Keira instinctively looked up just and accidentally hit Tyler’s chin with her head while Tyler knitted his eyebrows painfully and distanced himself from the lady. “Ouch! My head! This hurts…” Keira rubbed her head in pain.
  • “Miss Whitlaw, haven’t you had any manners?” Tyler said before he unhappily walked back into the room and sat on the couch while fixing his eyes on her.
  • Upon hearing the voice, Keira snapped out of her trance and looked at the man with a tired look. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to bump into you like that. Who would have known you were going to open the door from the inside? Please forgive me, Mr. Emerson.” Keira forced a smile in front of the man.
  • On the other hand, Tyler only fixed his eyes on her for a brief moment of silence before he said, “You’re late. Do you know that?”
  • “I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to…”
  • Tyler cut Keira short and said, “Spare me your apology. I’m not here to listen to your nonsense, so I’m going to just cut to the chase. You’re here because I want to talk about the matter between both of us!”
  • The man’s words caught Keira in a trance as she stared at the man’s face with her eyes wide open. This man has good looks, and I’m sure he shouldn’t have to worry about getting a girlfriend, so what’s there to talk about between me and him? What kind of joke is this? After all, we’ve only met each other four times—the first two in the police station’s detention room, followed by the subsequent encounter in front of the court and this time. Therefore, I can’t think of any other word than ‘strangers’ to describe our relationship.
  • “The… matter between both of us? What do you mean?” Keira gazed at the man in confusion while taking a sip of the cup of tea on the table.
  • Tyler looked at her and casually said, “Let’s get married.”
  • What?! Keira suddenly spat all her tea from her mouth onto the floor, choking on herself while coughing violently. In the meantime, Tyler was seen with a calm and collected expression on his face, as if he wasn’t surprised to see her reaction.
  • When Keira noticed the man’s eyes on her, she met his gaze, looking stunned. “W-What did you just say… Mr. Emerson?” the lady doubtfully asked again.
  • Tyler’s eyes were calm as he puckered his lips and replied, “I know your hearing is fine, and I don’t like to repeat my words. All you have to know is that marrying me will solve all the problems that the Whitlaw Family is facing now.”
  • Meanwhile, Keira was still fixing her eyes on Tyler in disbelief, dwelling on the man’s words over and over again. A few moments later, she decided to confirm what she had just heard. “A-Are you sure you’re the president of Emerson International?” After all, she didn’t really know him well enough, as she had only heard that he was the president of the company. Therefore, she would like to hear him admit it himself before she could put her mind at ease.
  • On the other hand, Tyler stood up in an annoyed manner upon hearing the lady’s question and coldly looked away. Instead of answering her question, he said, “It’s late now, and the Civil Affairs Bureau is already closed. So, we’ll go about the registration tomorrow morning. By then, I’ll head over to the Whitlaw Residence to pick you up, so get all your documents ready.” The man sounded as if he was commanding her instead of discussing the matter with her.
  • After finishing his sentence, Tyler walked away in a hurry as he made for the door.
  • “Hey…” Keira quickly caught up with him, standing in his way between the man and the door. Fixating on his chiseled face, she couldn’t accept Tyler’s hubris for taking the liberty to decide for her even though she found his looks attractive.
  • “My name is not ‘hey’. It’s Tyler Emerson. Keep that in mind.” Tyler corrected the lady with an emotionless look on his face.
  • Keira gazed at Tyler’s glacial expression and looked down with a bitter smile for a moment before she lifted her chin once again and asked, “Mr. Emerson, please tell me this is a joke.”
  • “My time is…”
  • “Okay. Okay, I know your time is precious. Let me ask you one thing in that case.” Keira glared at him and decisively continued her speech. “I barely know you, so why would you want to marry me? If my memory serves me well, you once said that your target was my father back in the detention room. So that means you’re his business rival or something. Right?” the lady asked based on the puzzles she pieced together with her imaginative mind.
  • However, Keira’s words only made Tyler chuckle glacially in amusement while he looked her in the eye with his piercing gaze, as if he could read her mind and see through her naivety and foolishness.
  • “Your smile is… giving me the creeps. Why do you have to smile like that?” Keira stared at Tyler with a pair of darkened eyes.
  • “My enemy is Kennedy Whitlaw, and I’m going to have my revenge on him. What about you?” Tyler gave Keira a smile as cold as ice, sending chills running down her spine.
