• Derrick moved away to the dining table, away from his mother, without saying a word to her. He sat at a far end, on the chair three seats away from Lady Loretta and Alex.
• "Mama, what did Uncle do to you? You should forgive him," Alex said innocently, and Lady Loretta smiled.
• "Derrick didn't do anything wrong to me directly. But you remember Miranda, right?" Lady Loretta asked, just as the rest of the maids stepped out from the kitchen to serve them breakfast.
