- "Derrick!" Lady Loretta scolded her son as she shouted back at him. She was also startled at how he had raised his voice at Miranda.
- "Mom, I am sorry, but why care about the maid? She woke up late, and yet she's still delaying your breakfast. Don't you see how tawdry she looks? She should be fired and sent away from here," Derrick said, as his deep blue eyes fell on Miranda.
- Miranda was scared when she met Derrick's cold gaze, which looked so deadly, like he wanted to personally discipline her for daring to have his mother starve again, when she knew that his mother enjoyed her services.
