Chapter 48
- "Derrick, did I hear you say seduce you? So you have had a fondness for Miranda all this while, and that's why you pretended to hate her?" Lady Loretta finally looked back at her son's face to see his reaction, but he looked away from her, replying, "No, Mother. I cannot be attracted to a maid. I don't want Miranda here; that was the major reason I sent her away."
- "Derrick!! You are no longer my son from today henceforth. If you do not bring Miranda back into this house, then keep your distance away from me, as I disown you today! Except you bring Miranda back; only then will I accept you as my son, and don't bring any woman to meet me in this house as your wife-to-be anymore. I don't want to see you or them anymore!" Lady Loretta turned to leave the sitting room, and Derrick tried to stop her. "No, Mom. You cannot disown me because of an outsider. You see, that's why I said she had bewitched you."
- "No one bewitched me, Derrick. I was the one who adopted Miranda. I am the one who sent her to college. I trained her because of you, because I wanted her as my son's wife, and because she's beautiful enough!"
