Chapter 14 Got It?

  • On Monday, Charlotte received an e-blast from the HR Department not long after arriving at her office desk.
  • 'It is with thorough examination and consolidation from each department that the HR Department has decided those who have officially passed their internship and will become an official staff of NeoEast International are as of below…"
  • Charlotte was so nervous that she thought her racing heart would stop any second, and it wasn't until she saw 'Charlotte Joslin' on the list that she finally eased. Though elated, she was quite surprised as well, for the more favored intern of the Finance Department, Madison Yate, didn't pass her internship.
  • Bennett had mentioned previously that the Finance Department would only be offering one intern the spot, and now, it had been given to Charlotte.
  • Thus, his gaze at Charlotte had turned somewhat strange after the email.
  • There were two interns in the Finance Department this year, which were Charlotte and Madison. The latter was a graduate student from Krone University, and she usually worked closely with Bennett. Also, she was an expert in her job. If Charlotte didn't constantly ask for leaves, she could've still competed with Madison. However, she was constantly on leave, and Darius didn't say anything about letting her stay in NeoEast, so she thought her job was basically a goner. But now, it was suddenly hers. It felt like the opportunity had fallen into her lap.
  • Judging from Bennett's reaction, he had probably given Madison's name to the HR Department.
  • Charlotte guessed Darius had a chat with HR, so even Bennett found it strange.
  • Who knew what Darius said, though? That he had a contract marriage with this girl named Charlotte from the Finance Department?
  • After work, Lucia and Charlotte decided to celebrate at a restaurant. Lucia, too, had passed her internship in the PR Department.
  • When the elevator arrived, Darius was in the cabin the two girls were waiting at. He kept one arm in his pants pocket the entire time, and his gaze never even shifted when he saw Charlotte, looking all predominant and aloof.
  • Behind him stood a few senior executives, who were discussing where to advertise this year's ads.
  • Lucia and Charlotte went straight to the back of the elevator cabin, feeling intimidated
  • "We have to apply for a dormitory after becoming an official staff. Have you submitted your application?" Lucia asked Charlotte in a whisper.
  • As soft as Lucia went, other people would still be able to hear her loud and clear, and what more when they were in a tight, enclosed space like the elevator cabin. Fortunately, the senior executives were speaking, so Lucia's voice didn't seem so jarring.
  • "Not yet," Charlotte answered.
  • "Why haven't you submitted it? There will be no rooms left if you drag it on." Lucia turned her head to Charlotte.
  • "Yeah, I'll get to it." After answering, Charlotte snuck a peek at Darius.
  • The reason she hadn't applied for a dormitory was because of their weekly visits to Grandpa's place. If she was away every weekend, her roommate would definitely ask questions, and she was worried she'd blow her cover over time. She thought about checking with Darius before making her decision, but then again, he probably wouldn't bother himself with a mere intern's problems. As such, she still hadn't gone to him. Besides, she wasn't short on money now, so she could continue staying in the rented apartment. After all, it'd be more convenient for her, be it that she needed to visit her mother or go to Myrefall with Darius.
  • However, she received an email from HR on Wednesday asking her to fill in her personal details for the dormitory application.
  • Charlotte was stumped, and just as she wanted to ask Bennett what the email was about, she got a text from Darius. 'Got it?'
  • The man really thought too highly of her intellect. Did he really expect her to get what he was trying to say just from that?
  • But after mulling over it, she finally got what he meant. Surely Darius had told HR to retain her in NeoEast. If it were up to Bennett, Madison would be the one staying. Darius was merely worried that she'd be hard to control if she was kicked out. Also, she had also guessed why Darius had applied for a dorm room for her. As the man himself put it, it was 'f*cking filthy'.
  • Four people shared a dorm, so if Charlotte's 'boyfriend' visited, Darius would definitely know. This was his reminder about his control over Charlotte as well.
  • This man sure thought multiple steps ahead. As expected of a CEO, he was planning everything out for a mere intern, not allowing her to have a say in anything.
  • With that, she replied, 'Got it.'
