Chapter 218 A Scare In The Day

  • Jessica sat alone at a table in the corner of the garden in which the ceremony was taking place, wishing that she could just leave, but not wanting anyone to think that she bore ill will towards the happy couple, or that she was jealous. It wasn’t either of those two things. It was just that being here, in this garden, with so many people around, was reminding her of that fateful night, three years ago when she had been kidnapped right from this very garden, and then held captive and tortured for so many months. It was from this very garden it had all started, and the atmosphere in it now was still the same ... festive and unsuspicious, except that it was daytime this time around.
  • Still, she hated the feeling the whole thing gave her, and thoughts of Charlotte, the sadistic bitch who had wreaked havoc on her life, came into her mind unbidden. Jessica still had nightmares … nightmares in which a smiling Charlotte stood over her and plunged a needle filled with poison into her veins so that she died slowly. Or ones in which Charlotte hid in the shadows, and pumped her full with bullets. Jessica was making progress, albeit slowly, but somehow, she knew that she was going to have one of those nightmares again this night. Some days, she thought of giving up and just ending it all, but she refused to give that bitch Charlotte the satisfaction.
  • Suddenly, she had a feeling that she was being watched, and fear gnawed at her, but she laughed a little to herself, feeling extremely foolish. It was broad daylight, and she was perfectly safe. Charlotte and her cohorts were dead, and no one could harm her. Slowly, she turned her face to where she felt that the person who was watching her was sitting, and immediately, gave a loud gasp, suddenly feeling very faint. It was her! Right there in the garden, sitting a little distance away in a suit and sipping from a glass while staring at Jessica unabashedly. Charlotte … she was back from the dead, or maybe she hadn’t really died, and she was here to finish off what she had started with Jessica. Jessica opened her mouth to scream, but nothing came out of it, and within seconds, she slumped to the ground in a dead faint.
