Chapter 195 Cutting Old Ties (One)

  • The rain was now pouring down as heavily as though large drums of water were being poured down endlessly from the skies without any respite. No other car was on the road, except for Sebastian's, probably because of the heavy downpour. The angry downpour and storm matched Sebastian's mood perfectly. He drove around the cold, gloomy-looking city with angry recklessness, not having any particular destination in mind, but his anger was directed at himself. He was feeling like a piece of shit, and also like the world's biggest jerk because of the way he had talked to Carol before leaving the house. He had not even bothered to hear her own side of the story but had gone off at her, pouring his anger, frustration, aggression, and guilt on her, when she did not deserve it in the least bit.
  • Carol was one of the nicest people he knew, and deep in his heart, he knew that there was no way that she would have done what he was accusing her of, but he had needed a channel for the guilt that he had been burying ever since his uncle had died, and she had been the closest person to him at that time. Not only that, but she had brought up a controversial topic that had been the perfect outlet for his anger. His uncle would be buried the following afternoon, and so Sebastian would have to say his final goodbye to him. The sense of finality was not something that he wanted to dwell on at all.
  • Even though nobody seemed to blame him all that much, Sebastian could not stop blaming himself for doubting his uncle, the man he loved most in the world, especially in the condition his uncle was in. He had accused the man of something so horrible that he could have as well have been the one who had injected the stuff that had killed his uncle into the man's body, not Charlotte. Now, the man was gone and he would never be able to ask for his forgiveness. He wondered how he was going to hold up tomorrow at the funeral. How he would look at his uncle's unmoving body for the last time, knowing that the man had died with the knowledge that Sebastian did not trust him, and that he would think that he would do something so evil.
