Carol followed her into the tastefully furnished study and sat down in one of the comfortable armchairs by the fireplace as she waited for her mother to speak. She was not going to make this easy for her.
“Um, how much did you hear?”
“Just that I’m to be a substitute bride to the most reluctant of grooms there is.”
