• I WAS ENJOYING the brisk temperatures of the Pacific Ocean and the distraction I got from battling against the tides when something grabbed me.
• Because I was previously alone in this vast stretch of ocean, I was taken somewhat by surprise. I wasn’t proud of the shriek I let out, or the sea water that entered my mouth after that shriek. Because I was trying to expel the sea water from my lungs and not drown, I didn’t get to fight against the thing holding me as much as I wanted.
