Chapter 1 Alpha's Unexpected Visitor

  • What in the mother’s name was that smell?
  • It wasn’t a bad smell mused a half asleep liang as he struggled but failed to open his eyes. He laid down back but a slight feathery touch on his face woke him with a jolt and he jumped up from the bed, a fresh scent of wild flowers assaulted his nose simultaneously.
  • Liang now somewhat awake was able to discern two things. One, the perfumed smell was actually a female’s scent; fresh pine, chocolate and coconut. Two, the shifter female in question was definitely pack. This was the only reason liang didn’t immediately begin to investigate who entered his room while he was asleep. The pack tend to do that especially when his door was ajar which he definitely remembered before he crashed last night. The weird thing was he didn’t know what the female wanted and there was nothing out of place in hos room.
  • Shaking off the unusual occurrence, he freshened up before dressing in his normal daily outfit of a large, white, flowing shirt and matching pants. The comfy outfit was custom made as liang was not a small man and it was hard to find something that wouldn’t fit snugly. He needed the ease he felt in such clothing though especially as most of his time was spent working as a healer which happened everyday. He was happy the moon goddess had given him a good beta and as good delta and gamma to manage the affairs of his pack even without him. He tended to travel often as sick people needed him all over, something his wolf didn’t mind as he took the journeys as a way to look for their mate.
  • Finding his mate, a female that he would love and spend the rest of his life with was something liang hadn’t thought about much. Not because he wasn’t craving that person but because he knew his travelling to help sick shifters was something she would have to condone. Not many females would like this idea! Something his beta, kang never ceased to remind him of albeit teasingly.
  • Mama Bao as she was fondly called by the pack members was a middle aged wolf who acted as a pseudo mother for the pack. She was liang’s mother’s best friend and had taken liang as her own som when his parents died some years back. She was loved by all the pack members and was respected by all too her prescience somewhat filled the gap of Luna in the pack.
  • “Good morning Alpha. How was your night?” Mama bao ushered liang into a seat at the head of the dining table and immediately dished out a heavy amount of bacon, eggs and cheese for him and filled his favorite mug with coffee. The pack members greeted their alpha and waited for him to set down his cup of coffee, this was their signal to begin eating. The chatter quietened as they each dug in
  • “Please seat mama bao, you need to eat too” liang shot the fussy woman a hard stare as she begrudgingly started eating her food. This happened everyday as mama bao wouldn’t eat till the whole pack was satisfied as she would keep piling their plates till they were filled, lazy wolves patting their bellies.
  • “Hey Zhen, how is your mate? The pups popped out yet? I should have gone to see her last night but I had to help alpha with the new bouts of healing tonic we just imported.
  • Zhen a portly, tall wolf who was one of liang’s fighters smiled at their pseudo Luna’s obvious concerns for his mate’s wellbeing. She had been on bed rest as alpha liang advised so they wouldn’t lose her or the kids during labor.
  • “Mela’s fine bao-bao, you need not worry yourself and you can go see her whenever you’re chanced. She knows how busy you are, ‘bao-bao’ was a term the older generation called mama bao sometimes.
  • “Thank the moon goddess for that. I will definitely go see her today”
  • After breakfast, the pack took a few minutes of recess as instructed by alpha liang before dispersing to their various duties.
  • “Are you sure everything’s okay liang?” The two were now alone and she resorted to calling him by his name, something she refused to do in the presence of others as a sign of respect.
  • “Why not? Of course everything’s okay. I just can’t help but wonder why I didn’t scent the female that was in my room this morning at the table today”
  • “Which female?” Bao-bao’s hackles rose slightly. The pack had an issue with privacy sometimes which she didn’t like at all but let go as Liang didn’t mind. ‘But his mate would’ her wolf whispered to her.
  • “That’s it I don’t know and you know I pride myself in knowing all my pack members by their individual scents” liang sighed as he rubbed his forehead. He really needed a good run in his wolf form.
  • “Yeah that’s true, one of the fighters found a young female at the edge of the pack’s territory last night but you were asleep so I told them to tell you about it in the morning ”
  • “Wha-”
  • “She was raped liang and bleeding so I figured we would help her besides she didn’t have anyone with her so I did what I know you would do” that soothed liang’s wolf who was already to obliterate any threat.
  • “I took her to the little room beside yours after treating her . I didn’t want her to sleep in the infirmary with so many males around. My guess is she must have seen your room open this morning and wandered in. I’m going to tell one of the women to bring her in ”
  • Liang was grateful for the umpteenth time that the moon goddess had blessed him with such a foster mother, she always knew to do what he would like done even without telling her.
  • “So what’s your name and which pack are you from?” Liang asked the willowy female who stood before him with her head bowed. A fresh batch of the now familiar scent assaulted his keen nose and looking at the unknown female, there was no doubt that she was an omega. The female looked to be in her early twenties with pale hair and an underweight body judging by the bones he could see from where her short hung off her slight shoulder.
  • “My name is Chen, Alpha and I don’t have a pack” liang couldn’t help the perplexed frown that crossed his face. Every wolf had a pack of at least came from one.
  • “What do you mean by that Chen?” Something I’m his tone must have scared the female as she started shivering and tried to fold into herself.
  • “It’s okay, Chen. He’s not mad at you.just take a deep breath and answer his question ” mama bao rubbed the female’s shoulder affectionately as she shot liang a warning look. Liang just smirked at her , the things that woman could get away with.
  • “She’s right. I’m prince liang the soon-to-be alpha of wang pack. I’m sure you’ve heard of us so it’s okay. Just answer my question, I won’t hurt you “
  • Taking a deep breath, Chen launches into a woeful take of how she was an orphan that was captured when she was a child by the a human who kept her in a room and experimented on her till she found a guard who helped her run away. While she was on the way, she didn’t have much money so she had to sell sexual favors to survive until one of her customers had raped her and threw her away on the road. She had awakened later and was trekking when she fainted and woke up in mama bao’s arms.
  • The pitiable story made mama bao to hug the omega who sobbed in her arms as the former soothed her.
  • Liang instructed kang’s mate to care for Chen and buy anything she would need. It was then agreed that Chen would work as a nanny in the pack’s nursery and would be initiated into the pack when she was ready. Chen burst into tears and thanked the alpha profusely before scurrying after kang’s mate. She was eager to feel like a wolf shifter for the first time in her life and having such a perfect male for a boss didn’t hurt at all.
  • “Alpha, wait up” kang jogged to meet liang and barely avoided colliding with him.
  • “Slow down kang. I heard you the first time.” Liang smirked. Kang chuckled and playfully punched his sarcastic friend. Liang was his best friend, they were thick as thieves and had very compatible personalities which made their respective jobs easier.
  • Kang explained to him that he needed to take a break from working in the infirmary and train with the wolves. They needed their Alpha’s presence, reminded him.
  • Liang chided his wolf as he trudged to the pack’s fighting ground. They would get to run later.
